The joke is on me again!!

Post by fatoldfool »

About Christmas I installed a Marbles tang on my Hartford .45 and sat it back in the safe. Took it out to the farm yesterday to zero it and it wouldn't function. Lifter wouldn't raise up. Brought it home and was looking at it last night and, , the hammer spur hits the front screw and prevents a full cycle....So do I grind the bottom of the hammer spur or try to dig a hole in the front screw?

How much are used hammers? I'd buy a used one and shape it to fit. Or I'd shape the one I have to fit. Hiding the color difference will be easier on the back of a hammer than on the top of a screw.
Kind regards,
Tycer

after my recent gunsmithing debacle (where they ruined the front base screw) I went to the hardware store and found a nice brass screw with the same 10-32 thread, and it has a FLAT head, instead of that Marble's round head.

It fit better than the Marble's. Although pay attention to length, if it's too long you'll have to drill into the stock (which I did).

Your screw might not be the same thread, there's a table on the Marble's website to check.

We're talking about the base screw? Anyway, a different style of screw head might allow clearance.

I took .008 off the underside of the tip of the hammer spur and reblued it...hard to tell it was done. I just hate I wasn't smart enough to find it before going to shoot!

I had one do that... I just countersunk the hole a tad more so the screw sat deeper.
