OT- Old Photo of Two Texas Rangers on a ? With Picture
What kind of truck are they sitting on? The photo is not very clear but it might be an old fire truck. I can't tell what is in the truck and if that is a bell or some moonshine still paraphernalia. What's your guess?

i can't identify the nmake, but it ain't a firetruck, or truck of any sort. It is a touring car of some sort.
Notice the folded back top?

Hmm....looks like it has the same size wheels as the kids put on their rice-grinders.
Re: OT- Old Photo of Two Texas Rangers on a ? With Picture
That is a spotlight on the far right and it looks like another about 1 Oclock above the hat of the guy on the left. It is not a touring car, I don't see any top folded down and the large steering wheel with a steep steering column angle and completely exposed (no body work around it) seat all speak of typical late teens and early 20's truck. There is no windshield either which is typical of early fire trucks. It isn't a Ford, its larger than any Ford of that period and it looks like a large 6 or a straight 8

At first glance, the first thing that popped into my mind was an Ahren's Fox, because it was so big. But I not familiar enough with the old fire apparatus to know.

I don't think there's enough cargo room for it to be a truck. With the spot lights on the rear I think it would be something more like a scout car as might have been used in WWI.

Re: OT- Old Photo of Two Texas Rangers on a ? With Picture
It might be a car or truck body rig up to find bootleggers at night crossing the border. I didn't notice the spotlight in the front until Rusty pointed it out. Those are big wheels to me and that really is not a running board they are sitting on I don't believe. It looks more like a long storage box. The big Texas Ranger may be Tom White it is hard to tell. It has Texas Rangers written on the back and the guy on the left is wearing a scout belt. In spite of how old you young guys thank us senior citizens are vehicles like this are before my time. I will take it down to Waco at the museum next time I go and see if they have any information. The photo is not in my possession yet so maybe I can make a better copy later. I hope to identify the rangers and what kind of vehicle it is soon. Any help is appreciated.

Somewhere in the dim corners of my aging brain, I seem to remember I have seen that or a similar photo before. IIRC the motor vehicle carried their camping grear and served as a mobil headquarters when they were in the field on their horses.

That long box they're sitting on is a gear locker of some kind, and the rig looks to be loaded with other assorted items one might need for an extended stay, out in the boonies.

I'm back again and Rusty got me thinking when he mentioned scout car. It looks like there are 2 trapizodal shaped plates mounted on the vehicle. One is at the rear between the spotlight and the gent leaning by the rear wheel. The other is above the cowl and behind the head of the guy on the left. It almost looks like the plate at the rear has an opening in it and possibly a Browning .30 mounted there. It also looks like a vertical opening in front of the spotlight in the plate on the passenger's side. Early Texas Rangers SWAT team? Am I thinking too hard? Is it too late at night? Rangerider7 I agree, they are sitting on a box mounted on the running board. I still think the wheels/chasis are too big to be anything but a truck with a short whelbase.
