How good can a gun be?

Post by Dave »

Today I drug out my pre 64 Winchester 94 carbine with a Williams 5D rear sight and the factory front sight along with my Marlin 336 with a straight grip and 18.5 inch barrel with a scout rig on it. Both are 30-30's. I haven't shot the Marlin in several months and the Winchester for over a year.
I took them to the range with my do all load of 33.0 grains of Varget in any case with a Sierra ProHunter 170 grainer and a standard primer.
Shot the Marlin first. Offhand at 50 yards. Forst shot an "X". The next two "10's".
Next the Winchester. First shot "10" followed by an "X" and another "10". The "X" ring is about the size of a half dollar and the "10" ring is about the size of a baseball.
What more can a gun do? I feel very fortunate to have these fine shooting, good looking carbines. Life is good. Low tonight 55 degrees. It's getting right.

That's about as good as it needs to be.
