Marbles sight problems question

Post by fatoldfool »

I have two new Marbles deluxe tang sights that have play when the staff is installed. One isn't so bad but the newest one has enough wiggle to spread the sight picture at least two inches at 25 yds. My friend has a new one installed on a .45 lowwall and it loosens the set screw after firing a few rounds. Anyone else having these problems ?. I just called their customer service and was told to return them for repair. ( I am getting a bit tired of returning new items for repair). Side by side the Lyman is a stronger sight, but no windage adjustment except shimming.

A while back someone here posted a thread on fixing the 'flop' on Marble tang sights. I think it involved increasing the leaf spring tension on the bottom of the sight and maybe deepening the detent 'notch' on the bottom of the sigt. Anyone remember the details ?

Your sights will need to be partially disassembled by removing the upright stem so you can access the detent spring. This is a square shaped spring with a "peak" fold across the center. You can either place a shim under the spring to raise it up a bit, or you can increase the elevation of the peak by squeezing the fore & aft sides together in a vice. Either way you increase spring tension and tighten the excess play. Here is a link to an earlier post that I hope will help:

Received one sight back from Marbles this morning (had already sent it off when I saw this reply) and it is now tight. The problem with this one was the base of the stem would not tighten in the windage base. Even after the set screw was tightened it had sideways wiggle. (sideways wiggle is nice on some things, but very undesirable in a sight).
