The problem, as with everything political, is in the definition. The anti's love to claim that "a child" is killed every - fill in the blank seconds - by gunfire. They imply it is all accidental deaths or criminal murders of innocent children. They want to leave the impression to the common Joe and Josephine that guns just magically go off whenever a youngster enters a room, in an evil attempt to kill them - since to all "good" liberals (never met one myself), guns are evil.
When you dig into the data they use you realize their definition of child stretches reason, often going as high as a 25 year old! Last time I looked, when one can vote, drink, and serve their country in the military, one is beyond childhood (maybe not experienced or worth a salt in the thought department, but certainly beyond childhood).
When you factor out all the youth (teens) on youth drug and gang-related murders, and truly look at young children (pre-teens), the number of accidental firearms-related deaths in this country is under 150 per year, and has been for decades. That is still 150 too many, but if the goal is simply to reduce the number of deaths, firearms are near the bottom of the list. After-school sports, swimming, and riding in cars kill many, many times more kids - each - than firearms. Last time I looked shifty politicians like the Queen B$%ch aren't calling for bans on sports, swimming pools and cars... yet.
