My name is Tim and I am powerless

Post by cwo4uscgret »

over firearms. Since I am on a medical leave of absence (and no pay until the VA does their thing) instead of buying a gun I have taken to trading off my "back of the closet guns that I don't shoot" for something different. Between the gun shop I frequent and I we refer to it as trading inventory...

The other day when I traded for the Henry Big Boy they had a Marlin on the wall - I just couldn't resist; so I traded an older Olympic 9mm AR (that uses Glock magazines and was always a PITA to shoot) for this new Marlin 1895CB with 26" barrel and 10 round capacity of .45-70. I have .45-70 ammo, dies, bullets, and about 18# of different powders; I'm thinking I ought to come up with some really good shooting rounds.

and here's the pair of new lever guns:

Looks like you know how to trade all right, fine looking 45-70.

Nice trades!!

And, I hear ya loud and clear!!

My lever 444 has been over powering my thinking lately as well. I am so happy with my Marlin 444 I decided make it my primary go to piece and polish it up a bit. I just can't think of a situation I would need anymore in a rifle. And with a squaw bag of a hundred rounds to keep her fed, I doubt I ever will.

Best to you and good shoot'n!!

Who Me? Here's the list of what I traded for this year:

Rock Island 1911A1 Parkerized
Kimber Tactical Pro II
Smith and Wesson MP15-22
Sterling Semi-auto 9mm Carbine
Charles Daly M5 Commander (double stack .45)
Ruger 10/22 Race Gun
Romanian PSL (Dragunov clone in 7.62x54r)
Henry Big Boy .44 magnum
Marlin 1895CB

On some trades I made out fairly good - like an $850 trade in allowance for a gun I paid $650 for from the same shop; others they were ahead, the rest were even up. If I were to do a spread sheet of what I traded in/out it would be even; as the counterman at the shop we've just been switching inventory from his stock and my stock!

I'd far rather have a Marlin levergun (in any chambering) than an AR in 9mm, so in my book, you 'traded UP'... 8)

Actually when you look closely at some of the "deals" I've made over the last 5 years you could make a case to call me "Horsethief Tim".

Here's a few more: Walked into my local gun shop just as they are buying a "rifle" from a woman. I say "what you got in the box" and was told "your next gun." Yep, I bought, on the spot, a mint Egyptian Maadi, with a 5 and 30 round magazine, sling, owner's manual; for $225 out the door - closest thing you can get to a Russian AKM because it was built on Russian tooling and machinery. I bought a Browning Hi-Power .40 S&W, mint, for $650 out the door and got $850 trade-in from the same shop I bought it from.

I could go on and on...and I wonder why I have trouble sleeping at night...
