ot- End of the Winter Blues

Post by Big Bore 94 »

While walking outside today. I had reminders of the snow and ice that has been here since December 24th. A wee bit still left in a few places. It was almost 50 degrees, very sunny and just a slight breeze. I saw a black object rise about three feet and return to mother earth. I went to investigate and it was a housefly, the first this year I have seen. There are many local stables so it is not that rare on the first warm day. I then noticed the sound of the tree frogs emerging! Wow, it has been a long time. I just had to take that beautiful sound in a minute. Yesterday one male bluebird returned. A couple of dozen returned six weeks ago and the another round of the snow hit and they all went south again. Now if I can just come across a nice zebra wood grip for my Dan Wesson..... I'm 10% positive that would up my marksmanship.......

It was a really nice day here in IL too. I didn't do much but if tomorrow is as nice I sure will.

Yep it was 42 and sunny here yesterday and on its way to 45 today all the birds are out and singing and the red headed finches are back. :D Figure at this rate the yellow finches will be back in another 2 weeks.

Yes , just around the corner now. Going to the cabin next weekend to get the range all set up. March, and early April are the Months for me to do most of my shooting. I must admit I am ready for it to hit! Low to mid 40's here also, but still quite a bit of snow.

on my run today, the temp was 51 degrees, but I am not quite convinced winter has left us yet. The trails varied from mud and running water to 18 inches of snow in the woods. A bit treacherous over the rocks and such but it was good to be out. glad I alternate my running shoes cause it will take a while for those I used today to dry out.

The maple are running (sap that is). My bil has made 30 gallons of syrup so far. I helped him set up a pipe line for gathering sap today in another bush. He should have another 2500 taps in and running tomorrow. This is easily 2 weeks early for us. Not complaining it has been a real good for winter for us this year.

Don't know for sure, but I think it was around 60 here today. The wife and I applied for our passports, for the first time. Why, I don't really know as there's no where right now we're thinking of going and it sure wouldn't be south. North to Canada, maybe.

Tomorrow I plan on trimming some hooves and riding one of the boys. We're supposed to get a little cloudy. We'll see.

Been nice here also. I've worn a t-shirt working for a week or so. Heard geese heading north, and saw some grass starting to green up in the yard. The bears have been coming out for about a week also. Time to bump up the walking hardware selection for the year. 30-30 goes back to truck gun, and 348, 45-70, or 30-06 go back to first choice for carrying.
