Great idea for a post! I'll see if I can snap a few pictures, but won't get a chance until mid-week. I'm sure this post will still be kicking around then!

I don't have too many milsurps left but I did go through a phase there for quite awhile. I competed in milsurp rifle matches for a number of years. Nothing to brag about but at least I was competitive. Here are my remaining rifles.
Top is a Model 1917 in 30-06, middle is an Ishapore 2A1 in 308 Win, and bottom is an Enfield, #4 Mk 1 in 303 British.

Re: OT lets see your Military long guns
Just a couple
NYS Militia Rolling Block in .50-70, circa 1871 or 2. Pictured with some other 19th century original stuff.
I rescued it from a private museum that was selling off some stuff. Yes we shoot it.
This one used to be a military gun, circa 1902 or so. Originally in 7X57, now in Cowboy .45 Special (wood not done yet of course)
Oh, and the obligatory 8MM Mauser, circa 1918 Prussian.
Bubba'ed when I got it.
New wood, modern trigger, sorta scout scoped with a jap. tasco pistol scope circa 1980

Re: OT lets see your Military long guns
I take it you refer to the 50-70 roller? No, the sight is not original or even old. It's a Lee Shaver sight I added for CAS long range side match use (but I did NOT drill the tang. I secured it with a longer tang screw and acraglass). The original tiny front sight is still a challenge, but I improve that by slipping a brass hood made from a cartridge case over it when shooting long range steelJReed wrote:adirondakjack
Did your roller have the tang sight when you got it or is it some thing you added?
Here's a pic I snapped the night I got the roller home. The sling was sill on it until I handed the rifle to my kid to look at, he underestimated the weight, his hand slid up the forearm, popping the old leather when it pinched under the sling. I kept the sling with an idea of getting a new one made using the the original hardware.

Hobie's Brown Bess most certianly is NOT a 'repro' as you state...JReed wrote: So lets see em they can be repros (Hobies Brown Bess) or originals.
I have it on good authority that it is, in fact, his issue weapon from waaaaay back when he was in the service.

Re: OT lets see your Military long guns
txpete, there's a guy in the Houston area IIRC that goes by the handle of Tantal. If he's still in business he may have one of those mounts and a google search should turn him up. I'd shoot you the link but I never had it on this computer and I'm pretty sure I lost it on my home computer.
It think it's a straight PSOP mount with a Weaver base.
EDIT: I think Tantal's website is Avtomats in Action.

I thought I was doing good with 3 rifles but man a few of y'all are seriously obsessed. I will have to get off my but and hit more gun shows to try and catch up.

Re: OT lets see your Military long guns
Pete: I got that mount from an outfit called Kalinka. It's rock solid as I've modified it but I can't recommend it because it does NOT properly fit the PSL as delivered (despite it being offered as such). I had to do some dremmel work on it to get it to where it's proper and if you're handy with tools that's fine but buyer beware.

Re: OT lets see your Military long guns
Fellas –
Sorry for the delay. Though I’ve been home all week, I’ve been traveling for the past four weeks straight, and it has just been a zoo trying to get caught up! Finally got around to snapping my usual poor-quality photos so I could contribute to this great post idea by Jeremy.
So, without further ado, here are some snap shots I took this morning of my military longarms. I’ll try to go somewhat in order by age (of the model)…
A Pedersoli-made reproduction of the .69 caliber smoothbore “1766 Charleville” musket, used in the American Revolutionary War (or, as we say here, the “War of Independence”!). This one hangs over the door in my home office.
A closer look. She was left in the white, and this picture doesn’t do her justice.
Progressing a bit in the time line, this gets us up through the 19th century.
The one on top is a Navy Arms reproduction of the Zoave .58 rifled musket. The one in the middle is a Harrington and Richardson reproduction of a cavalry 1873 Trapdoor Springfield in .45-70 Government. The one on the bottom is a gen-u-ine Springfield 1896 Krag-Jorgenson in .30-40 WCF.
Starting off the early part of the 20th century, here are my WWII (-ish) military bolt actions. Arranged from longest to shortest – the way they are in the safe!
At the top is the Mosin Nagant, representing the USSR. It is in 7.62 x 54R. Next is a Japanese Arisaka, slightly sporterized, in 7.7 Japanese (it was completely coated included the metal is some heavy shellac, so I stripped it, and added the butt plate. A late war issue that I would not trust firing!
Next down is my Mauser 98k in 8mm Mauser. It is in very good condition with the Nazi proof marks, and shoots like a dream. After that is my Springfield 1903 in .30-06. I was looking for a WWI set-up for this, thus the lack of the “A3” modification to the sights.
The last two are my recently acquired (thanks cubrock) British SMLE No4MkI in .303 British, now sporting period correct sights (thanks O.S.O.K.!). At the bottom is an Italian Mannlicher-Carcano in 6.5 Carcano. BTW, one just like this sporting a scope was the rifle that Lee Harvey Oswald used to kill President JFK.
Moving on into the mid-to-late 20th century and into the 21st is a my last military rifle foursome.
At top is the venerable M1 Garand, a Springfield in the WWII range, in .30-06 Springfield. Below it is its little brother, a Rockola-made M1 Carbine in .30 US M1 Carbine caliber. Second from the bottom is a civilian version of the M14 – a Springfield M1A. I know, I know – what the heck is that thing sitting on top of it. My gun, my choice (insert raspberry sound here). And last is my most recent acquisition, an AR-15 version from DPMS called the “Sportical”.
We’ll, that raps up this tour. Oh – I nearly forgot! Here are my “bona fides”…
Worth the wait?

Ok, Ok! I'm slackin' and just saw this post. Great idea, Jeremy. Man, there is some SERIOUS eye candy on this thread!
I only have two (I am so ashamed ), Old 3120, my 71/84 Mauser that everyone probably knows, and Old Savage, my '42 Enfield #4 Mark 1*.
Jeremy really helped me with 303 load development.

How about at FoBD July 10th and 11th? I'll be there in Hotchkiss, CO for a major FoBD event. You would really enjoy the place, Jeremy. I will bring "Old Savage" just for you. It would be cool if I could get the forum's Old Savage to go with me too.
By the way, we have a new article on FoBD that should be coming out online soon.

Re: OT lets see your Military long guns
I'll be off this duty summer 2011 but I am a patient person. Let me know how she shoots at the 1500 target.

Re: OT lets see your Military long guns
While my friend Tym did execute an amazing shot at the 1538 yard "Billy Dixon Target" one summer, we went back to duplicate it at another time of year and could not. Not even close. I think the original weather conditions contributed to Tym being able to shoot well outside the rifles normal range that day. It might be possible in July, who knows. But Enfields are better kept to 1000 yards, maybe 1200 yards with favorable conditions with 180-200 grain bullets.

Top: No.4 Mark 2, my cast bullet rifle.
Bottom: No. 4 Mark 1/2. Small details lead me to believe that it was selected and tweaked by a company armorer for intra-unit competition. With issue sights I use 174 grain Serra Match Kings. The scope is sighted for 150 grain spire points.

Re: OT lets see your Military long guns
I want to know what would be a good choice for a 7.62 x 54R in a bolt action carbine?
Nobody knows what other 7.62 I have and it's gonna stay that way for awhile, lol.

Any of the M44's will work. They even come with a built in bayonet.
