I've stumbled on some Hornady gas checks in a small retail store labelled "35 caliber". Anyone ever tried those on the .348...??
Thanks,
Don

I've never tried them but I've been seriously looking at them also. For one thing 35 cal checks are almost always the cheapest checks out there. The concern for me is how to keep the bullet shank and the check centered as the crimp is applied. We may have to get inventive as far as possibly machining a step in the top of the sizer die to receive the oversized check. I have even considered making a die set that will go in a normal press that will resize the 358 check into a proper 348 check. That would require annealing but that would be a good idea even when using the first method. In a nutshell, I think it can be made to work but it may not be as simple as using the correct check.
I bet they would work. I would anneal them first. In my 40-82, I use a 300 gr. gc bullet and it must have a big shank because a 41 mag gc won't fit so I use a .416 gc. Its really sloppy on the shank but when I run it through a .408 sizer, everything lines up perfect. Accurate ain't the word as this Hi-Wall is my long range "buffalo" gong gun and will shoot into 4-5" at 300 meters.-----------Sixgun
