What is recommended as ideal? Are there any products that are damaging on nickel finishes???
I took my 3" Chief's Special out of the holster tonight and some gray funk has sprung up on it that won't come fully off, even with 0000 wool. I'm hoping it's just stubborn build-up and not oxidation of some sort.
I can't recall exactly, but I think the last thing I put on it was some Birchwood-Casey SHEATH, preceded by some BreakFree Foam Bore Cleaner and GunScrubber. Hope that wasn't a bad idea.
Thanks, amigos.
Cleaning nickel finishes???

I've got a nickel plated Colt frontier scout and an old M&P Model 10 that I've used Breakfree and gunscrubber on, and had no ill effects.
I've not tried the sheath product, but can't see that as causing much of a problem.
It may just be some oxidation build up.
Try some Flitz on it and carefully work it around the area and see what happens.

Since I originally posted I've tried some Flitz with a paper towel and it did pretty well. I think I'm gonna break out the Dremel and the mini buffing wheel with some more Flitz, at this point, to hopefully get the rest.
The BreakFree foam bore cleaner is what I'm worried about. I know it doesn't have ammonia in it, but anything that attacks copper has me a bit worried.
Thanks for the bump, Bruce. It had slipped my mind.
