OT (sorta): any experience with the Stoeger SXS Shotgun?

Post by Tristan »

I'd like to have a light SXS 20ga, and I see Stoeger has the 'Uplander' and 'Uplander Supreme'.

These are 'affordable', at least compared to some other brands I've been looking at.

Anyone have any feedback regarding their experiences with this brand and model?

Thanks!

Tristan

BTW, it's only 'sorta' O.T. cause it's got a lever, it's just on top! ;-)

Tristan,

Have a 12ga Uplander for over the last 20years.
Though nothing fancy,it has served me well and is a very sturdy gun!
Good luck in whatever you choose :)

I procured a 20 guage Stoeger about 10 years ago for my two boys to use for CAS. That's a true test of a firearm IMHO, and it has passed with flying colors. Very good little shotty.

I don't own one - but I shot one about 20 times at a friends place one day (both triggers at once one time!)

Great gun - was very fun to shoot. I can't say much about durability - but it looked pretty solid.

Love mine, picked it up used 3 years ago. Handles like a dream, never given me a problem.

Great guns. They are solid and are a bit stiff at first, but they break in nicely and are very reliable. I've got many years of rough use on mine and it keeps on working.

I have an Uplander that has been my only pheasant and duck gun for the last three years and it has served me well.

I am the firearms technical editor for The Upland Almanac and in that capacity I write an annual "New Guns Review" each year in the May issue. If you can find the May 2009 issue you'll see the review I did of the Stoeger Uplander. In short, it is a good gun for the price point. The one I used was tested with 250 rds of non-stop firing, followed by an internal inspection and another 100 rounds slow fire over the remainder of the day. The fit and finish is not perfect and it is a heavy gun. The spots I noticed on the inside that would warrant keeping an eye on were minor, and even if a problem came up it would take many, many more rounds to show itself. Also, Beretta (owns Stoeger) has a pretty good customer service reputation. The only real warning I would give is that the stock is extremely hard to bend if the gun doesn't fit you just right. If you're going to have it bent you'll need to find someone that has a lot of experience to do it.
