You could always have it glass bedded around the tang and possibly reinforced with the brass pins Brownells sells before shooting it a lot.

The early one's not only split the stock in the tang area but the recoil also jumped the mag rubes out. Rossi fixed the mag tube problem by screwing them into the frame. They did add a nylon or plastic bushing through the tang screw hole but it hasn't helped all that much best I can tell.
The problem would go away if the wood was fitted better into the tangs and frame socket but that aint gonna happen so the next best thing I've found is to just glass bed them.
Something else I've found with several right out of the box. The stocks have had cracks under the tangs already. I don't know if this is recoil related or just green wood drying on the gun. (seen that many times on some of the old Interarms imported guns)

Oh yeah, the actions are doing fine.

A .45-70 does not operate at 65,000 psi , nor does it need to . The .454 does not come with a standard 405 grain bullet ( up to 500 or maybe 550 grain ) .

Besides that , my .45-70's come in a full size Marlin ( and full weight ) . Not a skinny little rifle ( yes , I have a Puma in .45 LC ) .

No comparison .

God bless

After over 3 years now, mine is holding up fine in all respects, including the stock. Still an ugly black but it ain't cracked. It's not an amazingly accurate carbine but getting 2.5MOA with reloads was pretty easy. The 454 isn't a 45-70 but it is quite a powerhouse in a 92 action. My 16" carbine will launch a 300gr bullet at 2000 fps.

The one I saw appeared to have shot loose at the locking lugs - not nearly as tight as the new ones I see or my 45 Colt Stainless. The 454 is stainless.
