The selelrs tried to get us to up our offer by another 2k, but we said no, so they went with our standing offer.
Now the hard and tedious part begins.

Will do. It probably won't be until May when we close.

The house we are buying is being subdivided from a larger parcel and the appropriate testing and surveying cannot be done until things thaw out a little.

Congrats, this is the best move you can make. The tax advantage alone is unbelieveable; for the first few years almost all of your payments will be interest, and that is a great write off. Plus as my Dad always used to say, every nail that you drive will be your own.

That's the biggest part of our wanting to buy. The whole investment appreciation thing is just icing.
We'll have an acre, so we're really looking forward to putting in some veggie gardens.
I'm hoping that some time next fall I'll be able to eat a meal consisting only of food we grew or killed ourselves.

The place is in Waitsfield, VT. I grew up pretty close to the Canadian border in the Northeast Kingdom.

I'll look on a map when I get home. I'm in Quebec City right now.Who knows, maybe this spring if the wife and I decide to do some cross border shopping we might look you up. Great part of the world we both live in.

Excellent! and Congratulations!
Your own ground. Your own walls. Your own roof.
The best part of owning a home for me is that I can pound a nail in the wall wherever I want to hang my antlers, photographs, boys artwork, anything.
Many good wishes for you and your wife in your new home!

Awesome I hope everything works out. The wife and I like to look at houses but we move every 2-3 years so not much point in buying right now.
