What is Duracoat? There in a M.1895 Winchester on Auction Arms that is "Duracoated"

This gun is has Duracoat. Can't blue stainless steel barrels.

Seems to me to be a good way to ruin an antique firearm. Looks like a good way to protect a modern one though.

Pretty much sums it up. It is a good way to "beautify" a well-worn gun that has no special value left in original condition. Also a good way to customize a gun with camo patterns or unique colors.

For those that have used it, how resistant is it to chipping or otherwise coming off?

Pretty good - but I have not seen it used on a "truck gun"... :wink:

I have it on a custom lever rifle I had made up and the loading gate it is wearing off and one other place that I can't remember right now but over all it is wearing ok. Not as good as parkerized finish but then it isn't the same material. Would never do it to a rifle that had real value as a collect piece.
