Who has more than one 45-70?

Post by zack coyote »

And why? I have one Marlin 1895SS, and have an itch to have an 1895 CB, and possibly a Guide Gun. Does this make sense? Why do you have more than one?

A guide gun, a 1895 cowboy, and a Browning 1886 SRC. I keep threatning my wife I'm going to buy a C Sharp's arm's next. Why, because I like em! :)

I've had several. Right now I only have my Marlin LTDIII. There's a couple more I want. Though I do get to babysit 3 trapdoors and an 86 for my Dad while he's off sailing around the Carribbean. :D

Soon to be two. I have a Marlin 1895 Cowboy, that has been Mundenized -- very slick, and accurate too. About an hour ago, sent the money for a "pre-owned" Shiloh Sharps Rough Rider. Can't wait to get my grubby little digits on that Sharps.

Four here.........1895GS all scout scoped and ghost ringed

1895 CB with a Marbles Tanger

USRAC 1886 With a Layman

BFR 10" with a Burris SpeedDot

I absolutely want a Shilo Sharps in 45-70, as well, and possibly another BFR chopped to 5". I feel a yearning for a couple more 1886s, too......Just can't have too many 45-70s

Well I do. The first one is a Winchester Model 1886 extra light takedown made in 1901. The thing I like about this one is that it is a take-down .... you never know when a compact package will be handy. Here's a photo ...

Image

The second one is a Winchester Model 1886 made in 1904, with a full octagon barrel and a half mag. I won't part with this one either because of how I came to acquire it as well as I just plain love the feeling of handling, shooting, and hunting with this vintage old rifle with an honest history. Here's a photo ....

Just have the one...so far. I intend to add a Marlin in 45-70 to keep the Sharps company just as soon as I recover from Christmas.

I have 2, a mod 95 Marlin and a Ruger #1. Why do I have 2? I haven't found a really good buy on # 3 yet. (I'm sortta cheap.)

Yes, I would be willing to wager that many forum members have several. So many great platforms that house the .45-70. 1886.

There is the 23" Contender Carbine, the Encore Carbine and the handy H&R Handi-Rifle.

I have owned several others over the years, but never have I owned a .45-70 repeater. I once was pretty quick with my RB .45-70 reloading, and I ain't too slow with getting the Handi-Rifle reloaded, either.

However, should I ever get the opportunity to go after bears again, there should be a Marlin in my future.

Grace and Peace.

Why not indeed! :D

Two. A Springfield trapdoor carbine reproduction from H&R, and a Browning 1886 SRC.

Why? Fulfilling two of my "themes" in the collection. One is to have a representative sample of every US military long arm. Second, is to have a sample of every Winchester lever-action. :D

Four, so far. An original 1886 EL made in 1915 and 3 of the Mirokus. :)

I have owned several over the years, my first was 1895 Marlin way back in 1974, but I currently only own a Browning B78 single shot. I have though about a Marlin Cowboy, or maybe Browning 1886. I would love to have an original 1886 with a nickel steel barrel, but they are pretty expensive anymore.

a whole bunch:
starting with rolling block remington, trapdoor 1873, 1878 burgess lever, 1881 marlin lever , 1886 bullard lever, 1886 winchesters [several of these] and modern 1886 winchester repros [2 of those], original 1895 marlin, modern 1895 marlin, and that's about it;
about 14 total i think, maybe more.
only reason i have them is that I NEED THEM!!!

I have two Ballards (#4 & #5) a Rem. Hepburn, two 1881 Marlins, and one 1896 vintage model 1895 Marlin.
Why more than one .45-70? Because they make them in more than one model and brand of rifle!

One on the way and that will probably be my limit. I don't have more than one gun in any particular calibre.

I own 1 - a Marlin Guide Gun 1895
I have access to one whenever I need it - father-in-laws - a Marlin 1895 rifle with 22" barrel.
I am actively saving money for another - a Shiloh Sharps

Why not?

Yes. Three and growing.
Browning '86, Marlin/Copilot, and Ballard #5
I will add an original Winny '86 someday, and I'd sure like a Sharps and a Roller, all in "gov't" persuasion.

Right now, I have:

- Marlin 1895CB -- my absolute favorite 45-70.
- Marlin 1895 Unported Guide Gun; soon to go on the block
- Winchester repro 1886 ELC; a definite keeper, close second to the 1895CB
- Pedersoli 1874 Sharps Sporting Rifle; straight stock, 32" full octagon tang and barrel sights. IIRC, the Germans had two of these in the movie "The Guns of Navarrone" that were blown up at the end of the movie.
