What Are Your Favorite Loads for Your .357 Levergun?

Post by wavetrain75 »

For those who home brew your .38/.357s for your leverguns, what do you like?

For paper punching

For hunting

For cowboy action

For discouraging the boyz from the hood

I can not load my favorite .357 load any longer because Alcan #7 is no longer made.

158gr. Speer soft point over 10.5 gr. AL #7 :D :D :D

I shot the last of an old batch a couple years ago and they still were more accurate in my Marlin 1894 24" cowboy than any other load to date.

Hobie`s loads are the same as I have been loading for several years now and do very well. :D

13 grs. IMR 4227 with a 160 Lyman SWC 358156 gas checked. 13 gr. 2400 with a 158 gr. XTP HP. Either one for hunting or defensive. Hitting orange clays at 100 yards with either. Took my first deer with the XTP HP at 40 yards in Nov. Lung shot, one lung punctured thru, the other pulverized, exited and not recovered. Deer dropped right where I shot it. Going to try the Lyman next week on either hogs or deer. The accuracy is what sold me on both. Shooting a Marlin 1894C.

Using a Rossi M92 24"octagonal barrel

14 gr 2400 under a 158gr Remington semi JHP, CCI 550 sp primers - my most accurate Jacketed bullet load

12.2 grs 2400 under a 180gr Westcast fp, CCI550 SP primers - mild and accurate

13.5 grs AR2205[ Hodgdon H4227], 180 gr Westcast FP CCI550 SP primers - only punched paper with this but I'm sure it will be very effective on game

15 gr W296 158gr Westcast rnfp CCI 550 SP primers and load a 158 gr Hornady XTP JHP over the same charge - my favourite hunting load, bang flop kills
