The most decorated US soldier to date was put up for 3 MoH for 3 different actions within 13 months and only awarded 1 MoH because of a 1920's law the 2 other MoH write ups were downgraded to DSC . RIP Robert. danny

It always gave me an especially good feeling to see NCO ribbons on my officers...

I did not know COL Howard but know a couple of people who said they knew or were acquainted with him. Not one negative comment.
Sincerely,

Hobie

I felt privileged to simply lay eyes on the man a few times at Ft. Bragg. A walking, breathing, honest to God HERO in the truest sense of the word.

As another said, Godspeed!

Yes he did. There are several awards that are only given to enlisted personnel. The only way for an officer to posses them is to have been enlisted first and earn them.

Usually your prior enlisted officers are you better ones to work for. They have "been there and done that" and have a better understanding unlike your green 2LT's out of ROTC. The "ring knockers" are the worst though :o

I knew Robert Howard, he was one of my instructors when I went thru Special Forces training back in 81. The man taught me lessons that I used throughout my 22 year military military career. He was a legend to us SF types.

COL (R) Robert Howard...Godspeed Sir.....

I watched in AWE the other nite at a small clip about Him on the NBC evening news. And the thought struck Me how sad that this true Hero gets maybe three minutes on the news while the average spoiled A$$h*** athlete in this country goes ashtray or stubs his toe we get an all out media blitz............................................................ God Bless Mr. Howard.

I met the Colonel in 1983 and had some contact almost every year until 2006.

He is was of the most unassuming nice guys you could ever meet. America lost a real hero who is a complete unknown.

America is so much poorer today.
