OT - Well, it was a good day at the range...

Post by AmBraCol »

A co-worker from a church up in Bogotá is in town on vacation with his family. Three kids from 26-16 years of age. Mom found out I pack a pistol, almost had an apoplectic fit. We had a good conversation about it while I helped Sheri fix dinner yesterday. Today we packed 'em all up and headed up to the gun club. Broke out the Crosman 1377 and the sawed off stock German air carbine. Gave a safety chat first of all, kept getting interrupted with "a question, a question" - which is just fine with me. If you don't ask, you won't learn. The oldest, a fine young woman, nailed the center of the bullseye with her first shot with the pistol. The middle child, the only boy, didn't do too good with the short guns. Still, all three kids and dad shot - and I even convinced the mom to try both the airguns. Later I brought up a 25 meter slow fire target and set it at about 20 feet or so. I then let them all try a couple rounds out of the PPPPPP. :-) They all did pretty good, even the youngest who shot two rounds into one ragged hole - on the top edge at the center of the target. AND mom shot the "evil" 38 too - even hit the target with her second round. Sure wish we had more ammo available for such things. Anyway, a good time was had by all. And the mom was commenting to some friends they ran into about the good time they had - and that I'd insisted on safety all the time and on the proper handling of firearms. WOW!

Well, it's off to bed. Tomorrow I may see snow - we're heading up to the Nevado de Ruiz - over 17,000 feet above sea level - if memory serves me right. See y'all when we get back...

Good job Paul! Sounds like you promoted shooting to the up and coming younger generation. Some guys don't quite have the patience for that. Have a safe trip!
