Good start to Muzzleloader season

Post by RIHMFIRE »

Started the weekend in my favorite stand on the egde of a huge
cypess swamp....Got ther well before daybreak to settle in...
It was a very active morning...tons of song birds, ducks flying by,
squirrels out the waazoo....and turkeys yelping in the swamp....
But no deer....or pigs...and this is probably the reason why
Image
my stand area was covered in bear scat!
Took the middle of the day off...hanging around camp
and then headed to another stand in a small oak hammock by a pond....
the stand/blind floor was full of pine needles and oak leaves....
and i started sweeping them out with my boots...and making an awful racket...
Sat down and there was a 200 pound black russian boar standing fifty yards
from the stand....munching on acorns....I could not believe he did not hear me...
But he did here me reach for my knight muzzle loader....WTF....
I raised the rifle as fast as i could but he was already behind some brush
and walking away....GRRRRRR ....3hrs later, just be for dark...his grandfather
showed up...pushing 275 ....gray and ugly....Put the crosshairs on his neck
and boom....What a cloud of blue smoke......and it just hung there....
couldnt see a blasted thing....I finally got a glimps of him through the smoke...
Dropped him right there....When I walked up to him...he tried to get up
and make a stand, or charge....but couldnt....one more cloud of smoke
finished the job....I forgot my camera...but i think this trail cam pic...is the one
had a pretty good pair of cutters...
Image
Image
and heres my muzzleloader...knight disc rifle....darn accurate...
Image
The hide on this guy was almost 1/2" thick....
That very same night my huntin buddy had 3 black russian boars
fighting right behind his stand.....but no shot presented itself.....
It is literally raining acorns down here....but no bucks! plenty of does
but no bucks......cant figure this out!

Great stuff ... good to hear you greased a tiny 275lb piggy. It's crazy that we don't have a bear season down here.

Pretty crazy hot here still though. I'm tired of the high 80's / low 90's.

awesome. Wish I had pigs running around in the woods here (that I could shoot). Well done indeed.

Congratulations on your pig, sorry about the bucks. Looks like a decent sized black bear. Do you guys have a bear season?

Good show! I haven't been too many places where deer, pigs AND bears co-exist.

thanks guys
No....we dont....and I just went through all our trail cam photos...
Looks like we have 5 different bears in that area....
I know the Florida wildlife commision was looking at it...
but the greenies...always screw things up....
all the problem bears in central florida get re-located to the
ocala national forest...its a 385,000 acre wildlife management area
with a bunch of smaller WMA around it....its bear heaven!
