That is very respectable power and right on the heels of my 454 Puma with a 300 grain bullet. Nice!

kEEP IN MIND A 300 GRAIN 375 HAS BETTER SECTIONAL DENSITY THAN A 45 WITH EQUAL WEIGHT SLUGS SO IT WILL HOLD VELOCITY LONGER, SHOOT FLATTER AND PENETRATE BETTER IF THE BALLSITICS ARE EVEN CLOSE. I HAD THIS MADE AS PENETRATION IS KEY TO HITTING THE VITALS ON THE WORSE POSSIBLE SHOT YOU MIGHT GET TO TAKE AND I THINK I CAN SHOOT THROUGH A DEER ON ANY QAURTERING SHOT IN RANGE AND BREAK A SHOULDER OF AN ELK AND GET TO THE VITALS WITH THIS ROUND . ANY 375 SHOOTERS OUT THIER WANT TO TRY IT ????

Hey, not trying to get into a "peeing contest" over cartridges here! Were you somehow involved in having this bullet made? If so, I'm glad you did! There are other cartridges that I think can do the same though, even in a levergun. What's with the ALL CAPS?

Anyone has shot these or other 300-grs loads in a .375W? I'd like to know if the twist does stabilize the bullet, or if they are key-holeing the target.

I used caps before to attract attention to an important mesage, if you have a 375 Winchester. I asked Mike at Grizzly to contact Hawk Bullets and see if they would make the special jacket for it for the rounds velocity, which they agreed to do per my request . In the past I have talked to others who loaded 300 grain slugs in the round witn NO key hole problems of any kind but the slugs were not designed forethe round and so the jackets were far to thick and acted more like a soild . Now that is fixed
Re: 300 GRAIN 375 WINCHESTERS NOW AVAILABLE
Been using 300gr cast out of my 375 Win for a while. My loads are pushing 2000 fps and it does thump for a light carbine. The mould is a CBE 376300 and it was specifically designed for the 375 Win. It is a super penetrator thats for sure.
Woodleigh are now marketing monolithic solids (CNC machined brass) and there was a trial batch made for use in a 375 Win. They are a 'cup point' design and claim almost soft point type performance with straight line pentration. A few weeks back they trialled some on buff in the Northern Territory and one hit from the little 375 Win pentrated the boss, exited out of the back of the skull then re-entered at the spine and continued to penetrate through the body of the buff. Quite amazing performance really for such a lightweight slug (235gr).

Win 94BB's came with a 1 in 12" twist, same as the 375 H&H - so bullet stability is not an issue. Out of my 94BB 300gr cast not only stabilise but are very accurate.Old Shatterhand wrote:Anyone has shot these or other 300-grs loads in a .375W? wanted to report the Hawk 300 grain 375 loads I asked Grizzly and Hawk bullets to make me are super accurate in my 94XTR. Shot a huge boar over the weekend, 400 pound Euro. Slug went through both shoulders and lodged under the skin on the far side in a perfect mushroom , Boar stumbled and tried a charge but could not go more than ten feet and turned. Hit him with an angular shot that broke two ribs, went through the chest cavity and lodged in the espophogous . THese were about 40-50 yard shots He went about ten yards and died . Load performed perfectly and makes this gun far better for larger game I believe . Recoil is nothing . If somone emails me at willsanders@earthlink.net that can put on some pictures I can send some and also the recovered slugs . William

Are the bullets going to be available as components?

I do not know for sure , ask Mike at Grizzly .
Re: 300 GRAIN 375 WINCHESTERS NOW AVAILABLE
If they will make that bullet available as a component bullet, I would like to have some for my .375 JDJ #3 Ruger that has #1 wood on it. Plus 1.5x5 Leupold scope. For right now I just shoot the 225 Hornady spire point at about 2425 ft/sec. Could probably load that 300 grain bullet to about 2100 to 2150 ft/sec, maybe a little more. Ouch!!!

Dave what would your load be for that velocity and at what pressure do you think ? Hawk Bullets made then so you could also try them for just the slugs . I have some left if you wan't to try a few ? If you get that velocity in reasonable pressures I would not mind trying a few . Mine are in the 1950 fps range but are not plus p loads Mike said .
Re: 300 GRAIN 375 WINCHESTERS NOW AVAILABLE
Howdy Eagles,
H4895 is a good powder for the .375 JDJ, as is Varget and RL-15. I am currently using 54 grains of H4895 with the 225 grain bullet from Hornady. That is 2.3 grains over what Hornady lists as tops for the t/c contender. My load shows no high pressure signs. Primers look great and extraction is slick. Hornady lists 46 grains of H4895 with their 300 grain bullet in a 14" contender barrel at 1900 ft/sec, so add 2.3 grains for a charge of 48.3 grains of H4895.
I have some info showing 47.9 grains of RL-15 with Hornady's 300 grain bullet in a carbine barrel for 2226 ft/secs. Of course, all of this stuff needs to be worked up to. At this point, the 225 grain at 2425 ft/sec does everything I need to do now. But, if I should go to Alaska, a 300 grain would be nice.
I may have been a little zellous in my earlier post, so I edited it to 2100 to 2150 ft/sec.
Sincerely,
Dave (Bubba) Thornblom

Re: 300 GRAIN 375 WINCHESTERS NOW AVAILABLE
what pressures might thee be running ? I have Wincester XTR which is very strong . mike loaded minbe in the 61,000 cup range which the gun is more than good for . I believe 62,000 is the upper end . William
Re: 300 GRAIN 375 WINCHESTERS NOW AVAILABLE
The Ruger #3 is as strong as the Ruger #1. So, no real problem with sane loads. I think my load of 54 grains of H4895 with the 225 grain spire point is in the 50,000 range. I think saami specs on the .375 JDJ are in the neighborhood of 58,000 to 60,000. So, still plenty of room for improvement.
I have doubts that the Hornady 300 grain would attain much expansion at the velocity I could manage at 2100 ft/sec. That thinner jacketed flat point from Hawk would be a different game altogether with expansion and penetration.
One of JDJ's clients with a T/C Encore and 24" barrel posted this load:
Case: Reformed Remington .444 Marlin to .375 JDJ
Primer: Federal 210-M
Powder: 55 grains of AA-2520
Bullet: 260 grain Nosler Accu-bond
Muzzle Velocity: 2400 ft/sec
Of course, NONE of these loads are for the t/c contender (even the G2), these are just for Encores and Ruger #1 and #3 conversions.
Sincerely,
Dave (Bubba) Thornblom

Dave what is the 375 jdg? I am using the regular 375 Winchester round with the 300 grain loads . Mike said they are about 1950-2000 fps . Are your loads for this jdg based on some blown out case etc or are they also for a 375 win ? Thanks
Re: 300 GRAIN 375 WINCHESTERS NOW AVAILABLE
Eagles,
The .375 JDJ (J. D. Jones of SSK Industries) is the .444 Marlin case necked down to .375 caliber. It is NOT the .375 Winchester cartridge and these 2 cartridges are in NO WAY interchangeable. DO NOT get these 2 cartridges confused. Powder charges for the .375 JDJ will most likely overflow the .375 Winchester case or cause pressures that would destroy a 94 BB in .375 Winchester. I repeat, DO NOT get these 2 cartridges confused and DO NOT use any .375 JDJ powder charge in any .375 Winchester. To do so would be inviting disaster.
At one time, years ago, I owned a .375 Winchester 94 Big Bore. I really did like the 250 grain factory load. When Winchester dropped the 250 grain load and went with the 200 grain load, I started loading the 220 grain Hornady bullet with 38 grains of RL-7. Still wanting a little more power, but not as much as the .375 H&H, I started looking for a better cartridge. I found it in the JDJ line of cartridges, the .375 JDJ. With it's larger case and powder capacity, .375 Winchester ballistics could be surpassed at lower pressures. I found a Ruger #3 in .375 Winchester and sent it to J. D. Jones to be re-chambered to the .375 JDJ, and this rifle does exactly what I wanted it to do at a lot lower pressure than the .375 Winchester generates.
Sincerely,
Dave (Bubba) Thornblom

These fella's have got some pretty impressive results with the .375 Win and 300gr Woodleigh proj, other calibres used to but I was surprised as I thought the .375 is a little light for Buff. Flashy marketing name but they seem to do the job.

Re: 300 GRAIN 375 WINCHESTERS NOW AVAILABLE
If Grizzly says that their 300 grain loads for the .375 Winchester are at 61,000 pressure wise and max pressure for the cartridge by design is 62,000, then there is very little room for improvement. To get any substantial improvement over what you already have, you would have to go to a larger cartridge. To quote a popular gun guru, you can make a little gun out of a big gun, but you can't make a big gun out of a little gun. There are limits and I think Grizzly's new .375 Winchester loading may be getting really close to the limit.

Jacko that link about the buffalo does not work , or allow me to see anything . Did some one shoot a bufflao with a 375 Winchester then ? Yes I agree the Grizzly loads are near to the top . He said they were NOT plus P loads though which makes me believe a little bit more is possible . The Gun performs super with those loads for the weight and size of gun and round . I dont have to have more power but if it is with in the realm of possiblity I would be interested . If I want a lot more power I will just pick up my 405 or my 50-110 but it is kind of fun to see the limits of each one as well and these huge boar are good tests . I would like to see the pics of the buffalo if I can ? Will

Re: 300 GRAIN 375 WINCHESTERS NOW AVAILABLE
eagles - Try this link, pictures are on page 2 of the post. A fella posted pictures of a Asiatic water buffalo he shot with a .375 Win and Woodleigh's new hydrostatic projectile.
The fella says - A large bull was was hit through the boss of the horn with the 375 and the bullet exited the back of the skull, re entered through the neck, clipped and damaged the spine, then went on to be recovered in the rear hip. After all this the bullet travelled in a straight line and the buff went down. The load was a 235gn hydrostatic at 1800fps.
He shows a few pics of the autopsy showing the path of the projectile. Looks like he used a lighter projectile though just thought it interesting that a well known company in big game projectiles was now listing a 300 gr solid brass bullet.
