Are values going up or down on old levers in your area?
They seem to be a little up here in Central Texas.

It depends. Here in Wyoming, Winchesters and Savage 99's are just crazy, but you can still buy Marlins pretty reasonably compared to some other parts of the country.

It is hunting season buying time (the early portion, they go crazy right up until the last day of the season) but prices are down a bit.

What "old levers"? In central IL I rarely seen anything but newly manufactured lever guns. And even those are scarce. The last two I saw on the dealers shelves was 5 years ago and I bought one of them.

Pretty flat for run of the mill .30-30s, 32 Spec,.....specifically in '94 Winchester. Down a bit on the Marlin 336's, up a bit on the 1894s, go figure. '95 Winchesters have bumped up a little, the 86's are up too. Try and find a Timber Carbine in .450 Marlin, that'll cost you a leg or so. For some reason the Browning replica's in '86 and M71 are rising faster than expected, actually worth more than equivalent models of the Winchester in some cases. The Savage 99 seems to be region sensitive, I can buy a pristine 99E 1949 in 300 Savage with Leupold scope for $300 right now, this thing looks to be 99%.

Anything marked Winchester is still way overpriced...don't see many 99's and the Marlins are still about the same as last year....

I ve been seeing some lower prices recently on pre-64 model 94's, but any other model Winchester lever seems higher than the last couple of years.

Re: Are values going up or down on old levers in your area?
I'm seeing a lot more used leverguns show up at my favorite local shop (Olde West Gun & Loan in Redding, CA). Quite a few Winchester 94's with a few of the post '64 versions priced under $300, and a few earlier but rather rough ones under $500.
The original Winchester '92s remain very high with a couple shooter grade .25-20 at $1600+.
A nice looking '93 Marlin carbine in .32 Special is $800.
A NIB Browning '86 .45-70 carbine is $1300.
A NIB Browning '95 30-06 is $1100.
NIB Browning High Grade '95 at $1800.
On average, I think the common used Winchester '94 carbines are a bit down in value and everyhing else is going up.

Nothing around here to see except Gander Mtn, and they are way out of norm to begin with on their prices. Pawn shops have nothing but junk nowadays. Gunshops carry EBR's and cheap bolt guns, with lots of Glocks thrown in for the bangers. From what I've seen on GB levers are about 10%-15% lower than 18 months ago.

Seem to have gone down about 10-15% around here lately????
Re: Are values going up or down on old levers in your area?
"Bread and butter" guns (30-30's) running used about $275/Marlins and $325/Winchesters at my favorite pawn shop. Other stores, Gander, Bass sky's the limit, prices head rapidly north from there.
Any other calibers, i.e. .44mag 500- $600

Rarely see 99's and if you do they are way over priced. Like $850 for something that looks like it was buried underground. Marlins not very often...336's run about $400. Winchesters are always high. Post 64, $600 and pre-64 several hundred more.

Re: Are values going up or down on old levers in your area?
I'd say the actual selling prices of old Winchesters up here in Canada is down by about 20%. Just over a month ago, a beautiful original Model 1873 in at least 80% condition, strong case colors and a mint bore sold on our Canadian forum for $2,500. Just over a year ago, it would easily have fetched $3,500. I know of a couple original 38-55's that have been advertised up here on the internet for $600 to $700 for a couple months and no takers. I know of a couple original '76's that have been advertised for more than 6 months in the $2,000 range and no takers. I've sold a few this year at quite a bit less than I would have gotten last year. For example, I sold a nice Model 1894 SRC 38-55 with about 80% blue, excellent bore, and still some case coloring on thelever, for $1,300. Last year, you couldn't find one for under $2,000. Now nobody wants one for anything near what they used to command. I know a fellow who's been trying to flog a minty Colt for several months now, no takers. It is a great time to buy, a lousy time to sell.

In my area of the Northeast, we have so many winchesters system-wide and they are not selling at all in any caliber. The savage 99 (of Late) are keeping their value better, even against the high end winchesters........So buy one of each and you've got a 50-50 chance of getting yourself an "investment gun"
