Today I went out behind my work shop and did some bench shooting and fine tuning of my Winchester 94 30-30 Trapper. After shooting 10 shots at 50 yards you could cover the hole with a little more than a quarter and dead center using my Ghost Ring sights. The ammo I was shooting was Federal 170gr. Power-Shok Soft point RN.
Then I got the idea to see how my Winchester 170gr. Power-point Super-X CXP2 would compare at the same distance. Nothing changed at all!! The hole was exactly the same as the Remington. Now I have to admit that I have a fond place in my heart for Winchester ammo but when Remington is almost $2.00 cheaper a box I think I will be doing my roving and plinking with Remington and my serious hunting with Winchester. Between the Federal and Winchester rebates I have about $30.00 coming back from them so thats great too!
Learned something else too. Winchester has a song! I never knew that until I heard it on there web site and you can download it for a ring tone on your cell phone.
See, I'm old but I still learn something new everyday Mike
Tried both to these back in Nov in my 20" Model 94. The Federal chronographed 2105 fps and the only three shots I tested were in .7" at 100 Yds. The Winchester Powerpoint 170s clocked 2041 fps. These have shot as well as .75" at 100 on other occasions. I was primarily interested in testing the velocity differences. I had previously tried the Leverevolution 160s which clocked 2272 and grouped 3 in 1 1/16".
Federal 150 Powershoks clocked 2350 fps by comparison. 150s have never shot as well in this rifle. 1 1/2" to 2 1/2" is common.
