OT--California Gun Laws

Post by getitdone1 »

Read recently that it's illegal to bring handguns into california with magazines capable of holding over 10 rounds. Correct?

Also read that when you move to California you must fill-out a form registering all your handguns. A form for each handgun and a fee of 19 dollars per gun.

Kinda starts to Pee me off.

Do I have the above right? Other important California gun laws to know about?

So how do I get my new Glock with 15 round magazine into California--legally? Join law enforcement out there before moving--if possible? Get an FFL license?

See in Midway catalog I can buy Glock 19, 10 round magazine. Maybe this will allow legal entry with this gun?

Here's everything that you didn't want to know. I'm just the messenger. FYI, you have 60 days to register those evil hand guns.

Don,

I think I'd rethink moving to that place.

My brother lives there. He actually offered to pay for my move there and get me set up in a house. I politely declined. I value what rights I have left, so no move to CA for me.

If you have a CCW in IN, you'll most likely loose it when you move to CA.

Here's a couple of links for you.

http://www.ag.ca.gov/firearms/index.html

http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

For the second link, you want to read the Penal Code.

As for your questions:

You must fill out a form for each gun you bring into CA. You can get the forms at any CA Department of Motor Vehicles Office (DMV).

Now, as to the magazines. You are registering the gun NOT the magazine. If your gun came with a large capacity (over 10 rounds) and you bought the gun BEFORE the CA ban on magazines over 10 rounds went into effect, you MIGHT be ok.

The safest thing for you to do is to call the folks at the first link to make sure you will be ok. As a matter of fact I recommend that you do call DOJ.
