Doesn't this seem like a pretty good deal.

It may be a little high but looks like a pretty good deal. Right or wrong?

That wood is almost too pretty not to have been sweetened some.

Thanks for posting. I do love the old '86s and that sure is a nice set-up.
Kind regards,
Tycer

I'm a thinkin' rather a lot high... pictures are either too light (stock) or too dark (receiver & forend) and detail is hard to see. Sights, buttplate and all look correct, but... I like to see a better pic of the upper tang and the barrel markings. Metal looks "off" to me, just don't know if I'd advise that much. "...MADE WITH HARDEND CASE STEAL..." is very likely more than a mispelling, Freudian slip if you ask me.

But, I'm not an 1886 expert, nor did I sleep at a Holiday Inn last night!

I will admit the description leaves much to be desired. I kinda like those 86s myself.

I think his percentages are a little high. If the condition was more in line with his percentages the $3000 tag would be a pretty fair deal.

I have not been around to see the auction, but from the photos the gun "appears" to be an original one. The LWTD .38-56 I bought last year was better, and a thousand less. That gun is a maybe 2 Grander. I don't think that it sold, though, did it? :)

Its a half rd/oct. gun. Try to find one of those in an '86 as only a bit more than 1600 out of 160,000 were ever made. Wood has been lightly refinished, but tastefully--------------------Sixgun

I don't want to repeat it, but take a look at my post of 16 June. All nice 1886 Winchesters don't cost an arm and a leg, some'er merely a finger. :D

I'm one of those guys that *has* to see and look over the gun in person... I'm not gonna buy otherwise - so who knows? Maybe it was a sweet deal. I miss plenty of deals - but I don't get burned either.

OK, it's only a .38-56, but the 1/2 Oct TD makes up for the "least desireable" caliber. Very accurate, too. :) ImageImage

Mike, you nuts? "least desirable" :o . You should say "not as popular as a 45-70" :D . Any '86 is a gem, especially one with a half oct/rd barrel and the takedown feature. -I like the looks of your '86--Can I have it? :D ----------Sixgun

Maybe his computer's spell check feature is malfunctioning. 1886.

For some unknown reason, my replies have failed to make it through transition, but I'll try again. I was merely poking fun at the "old line" Winchester collectors with the "least desireable' comment. To them, the .33 WCF didn't count and the .38-56 WCF was hardly noticed. A REAL 1886 had to be .40 caliber and above. The .38-70 made their pupils dilate and a .pre-1899 deluxe 50 EX caused their eyes to roll back in thir heads.
