Question about Win mod 94

Post by Old Shatterhand »

I would be grateful for your comments on the following.

Yesterday I discovered, that the barrel of my Win 94BB was a bit loose, although the front sight was perfectly vertical. I dismounted the magazine and the forearm, and than I could unscrew the barrel by hand. Having done that, I degreased the threading of the barrel and receiver. Before I put the barrel on place, I gave the treads some blue Loc-Tite. When I screwed the barrel back into the receiver, it stopped correctly with the front sight vertical.

However, can there it have been some problems with high pressure, or other damage, which had caused the barrel to get loose?

Regards,

You know, my front blade isn't dead vertical either. Guess I'll be pulling that apart tonight.

Wow thats odd! Check for excessive head space Sir. Do you have reason to believe it may of been subject to excessive pressure?

That's AWESOME!

I had to have a smith cut the shoulders of my barrels to be able to unscrew them by hand! I have a 30-30 barrel, a 32 Special barrel, and am looking for another 30-30 barrel to re-bore to 35/30-30.

No worry about shooting a hand tight barrel.
Kind regards,
Tycer

About 20 some years ago the barrel on my 1943 vintage Enfield No4 Mk1 unscrewed itself. I kept watching the bullets move farther and farther off to the left and couldn't figure it out.
Finally I stopped shooting and took a close look and the front sight was tilting to the right. Oops...

I did the same thing you did. Took it home, stripped it down, degreased it, then coated the threads with RED Loc-Tite. It hasn't come loose since.

The only things I can say that might have caused that barrel to loosen up is that it wasn't properly tightened when it was made.
~OR~
The sights were crooked and somebody pulled the barrel, shaved enough metal off the shoulder that it didn't tighten up properly.

Other than that I don't really know.
