The Fourth is here again and I know you Riflemen will think of it, but I doubt America, as a whole, will remember the horror that the ForeFathers went through to get us here. I have a whole lot of riding and fishing planned this three day weekend, but I believe I'll watch The Patriot this evening, and then maybe say a little prayer of thanks to all those guys and gals that bought Liberty for us.
Hey, Guys....be safe. Too much beer and anything fun is not a real good idea

I'm heading home to Canada for the 4th. I'll flying Old Glory and Gadsden while somberly reflecting on the loss of Liberty. I simply can't get onto the spirit of celebration as I feel that the Founders are looking down on us with sorrow.
The Patriot is one DVD that I don't have. Used to, but it dissappeared and I haven't replaced it.
I'm gonna be smelting lead and casting bullets over the weekend.
If I lived on a farm I'd probably have the BP Ball Mill running too...
Can't think of anything much more "patriotic" (Unless I get Detailed to stand in Uniform & play TAPS again...)
C2N14... because life is not energetic enough. מנא, מנא, תקל, ופרסין Daniel 5:25-28... Got 7.62?
Not Depressed enough yet? Go read National Geographic, July 1976 Gott und Gewehr mit uns!
Just remember as you watch the movie that it closely depicts the life of Francis Marion, Known as the Swamp Fox. It has been thought out many times that Marion might have well been the factor that cost the Brits the war as they had to fight on two fronts at the same time.

Yup...ditto all. Have a good one. The wife and I will be smoking baby back ribs tomorrow, popping caps at the range on Saturday, and fishing on Sunday. Woo hooo!!!!

Agreed, but the family will likely sit down to The Patriot or some similar movie just as a way to relax and remind ourselves of reality. Most holidays these days just emphasize how superficial our society has gotten.
Doctors for Sensible Gun Laws "first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.
Even our forefathers allowed tyranny to reign over them for a period until they had enough and decided to stand up.
Most folks don't recognize that the British oppressions (TAXES) that led to the war and the war itself lasted from 1764 until 1781. 17 Years.
I don't think it would take that long this time, because the government is a shadow, a shell. It doesn't really exist. It maintains power by indoctinating our children to be mindlessly obedient and forcing the People to live in fear of what MIGHT happen. The key is to demonstrate to the military and police powers that we are not to ruled over and cowed by brute force. Once they understand that we are not afraid of them, and that we can fight, they will collapse.
Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.
The Patriot is a good movie. Too bad it stars and Aussie
I just finished watching Shane, again. Interestingly, it takes place around the 4th of July. In fact, it's at a celebration of the homesteaders that the green eyed monster first starts to rise in Van Heflin. And for the first time I noticed it had "Walter" Jack Palance in the credits. Never new he went by Walter. Jack suits him much better.
You fella's be safe and have a wonderful 4th.

But the Tea Act was actually a repeal of most tax on tea. Only a 3 pence/lb duty remained. This allowed the British tea to compete fairly with tea brought in by American smugglers and it was they who spearheaded the unrest over it.

I really like that movie. The scene where they are at the Spansh Mission was filmed at Cypress Gardens in SC a few mile from the house. The mission is like 1/4 scale but when you see the scene it looks much larger. It's like when you watch a ball game and the catcher looks huge compared to the pitcher. If you're interested there is a good book about the Swamp Fox,

Watched it last week. When I 1st say the movie I wanted to kill that British Dragoon Colonel so bad. It's been along time and another war since I have had those feels come out. I guess it doesn't matter how old you get, That Uncle Sam training never goes away and the memories still haunt you. My wife tells me it just a movie that dont happen in real life, I just look at her and smile. "She's never seen the elephant." From all the Patriots Young and Old, We Never forget what our freedom has cost. To all the ones that have never been there and done that, including the leaders our great nation. Just remember we picked up the check, so you didnt have too. Have another great Independance day.
