Would you believe........

Post by k8bor »

Last year I bought a $5.00 raffle ticket from one of the guys at deer camp from his Conservation (hunting club) for various sundry prizes.

Three days ago, the Club financial guy calls and says I won a rifle! To be exact, a Winchester Black Shadow (synthetic stock) bolt action .223. I’m thinking that I have no real interest in the caliber myself, but the rifle should be saleable or make decent trade barter. He also informs me that he is faxing my info to Bass Pro shops 150 south of where I live, and that I can pick the rifle up this week.

Since I will have to drive a 300 mile round trip to pick this rifle up, today I called down there to make sure they have my info and that all the arrangements are in order. No problem there, and a very nice guy on the gun counter tells me that I can either take that rifle or the value credit the Conservation club paid and use it on another gun. Now things are getting interesting.

So I tell him that I would be interested in anything Marlin makes in .45-70. Well, he says, they’re pretty slim on rifles in that category, but they do have a very nice 26â€

I'm going down there Monday to pick that thing up. I hope I can contain myself.

I had one of the best Chrismas' of all time this year with the Grandkids and I have a great hunting story to tell you guys as soon as my son sends a couple pics back after He and his family get back home. You guys will like this one.

I'm going to have to pinch myself again to make sure I'm not dreaming.

Monday? Good gosh man that's almost a week away. Call in sick to work and go get that rifle! Anything could happen to it in a week! Why in a week it could start to RUST!

Congratulations on your new rifle.

How is the weather in MI. I have an uncle who lived in Grayling for a long time. It was hard for me to believe how much he used to use a snow mobile up there. I know your fishing is also great. I got to visit my uncle several times and fish with him. Some great brown trout up there. Also got to hunt Grousehavn with him. You live in a great place. Tom.

Head0001

We have about 18" of snow right now, and it's cold. Supposed to warm up some this weekend though.

Yes, Grayling is a great place, and luckily I have a good job, but the state has depended so heavily for a century on the auto business that now most of it has gone away in the last five years, the whole state economy is in the toilet. The problem is the state government has no idea how to deal without the auto industry. They keep claiming that hunting and fishing should now be the mainstay of the economy, (outdoor sports destination state), but they've killed a lot of the fish stocking programs, and reduced the Department of Natural Resources down to a pitiful handful of people that are catering to more political than sportsman's needs.

I'm afraid our state is going to suffer a lot worse yet for a few years before anything changes.

It isn't. He must have read it wrong. I'll be giving them $125.00 cash IN ADDITION to the black shadow credit. Should clear that up.
