Norinco 1887
It was subtly mentioned on another thread that there may be a fault with this shotgun.
What is it?
...cuz I want one, but don't like wasted cash.

1887
None that I'm aware of. I broke down and bought one and haven't had any problems with it. That may be because I purchased it from Coyote Cap - he's stood behind the work he's done for me, so I figured he'd stand behind the 87, too. So far it's holding up very well and it's fun to shoot.

87 WINCHESTER CLONE
Mine has definite feeding problems and I need someone to straighten it out...find someone who wants a bargain to play with. One local gunsmith said it was a "timing problem" but I talked to him just prior to deer season and he was swamped.
Thanks for reminding me. I have to drive past his place tomorrow.

When they said SHARPS, I always thought BIG 50!
I have three of them and one was a little cranky feeding and ejecting due to burrs in the action. I took it apart and did some major polishing and it's a solid performer. Based on that experience and the fact that my wife and daughter like shooting them, I bought two more.
I did notice that some plastic hulls are longer than others when fired, and those that are longer do sometimes hang up upon ejection. I stick to rounds with shorter hulls like AA, Federal, and Rem "Heavy Dove" loads.
The gun in the top photo has had about 1.5" trimmed from the buttstock and a Limbsaver added, along with sling swivels and a Uncle Mikes sling. A most handy little piece.

Those are the UGLIEST shotguns ever made. I want one.
But I won't buy one made in commie China. If the Aussies would get theirs going and export them I'd go for one of those. Or maybe an original, hah who am I kidding?

I was looking into them some time ago and put out a question as to the quality and functioning of them. Steve from Steve's gunz gave a detailed description of just what was needed to make them function in a reliable manner. To me it sounded l9ike a major rebuild. Personally I'm not ready to have an off the shelf gun redesigned to make it work, but that's me.

Like this;
What size round ball are you using, and what are you using to apply the crimp with? I have a Norc 1887 on the way and a few extra full brass Magtech hulls lying around

Killer Kanuk,
Winchester large rifle primers, 100gr ffg Goes, about 1.5 inches of cardboard wads, crimp BEFORE inserting slug, and then top off with one ounce fin stabalized slug.
I haven't fired this load, as it is just a novelty.
What I have fired, is 70 gr ffg with a thick cardboard wad spacer, and a .715 round ball seated on a shot cup that has had the 'petals' cut off and seated backwards. No crimp with this one, just a dab of Elmers glue around the 'overshot' card.
This load shoots fairly well, but may need a heavier charge, like 110 to 130 gr ffg. I plan to take a hog with this combo this summer, once I'm satisfied with range results.

YK, yes and no.
For them to feed through MY pump guns, they must have a crimp. Otherwise they hang just below the chamber.
I have a die set, but no press to fit them. I have carefully hammered the die onto the shell for a crimp, but that is a pain.
I've had great luck just pouring the components in the case, seating the wads with a 3/4 inch dowel rod, and using Elmers Glue to hold it all together.
So, if you want to feed these through a pump, yes.
For shooting in a single, double, or directly feeding into the chamber, no.
I am really enjoying loading and shooting these. When crimped they feed wonderfully through my '97's, much better than modern plastic shells. You know , the issue with opened crimp hanging on the short forcing cone?
The Norchester will pile these up about three feet to my right and slightly behind. The Winchesters will sling them a bit further.

How many shells does it hold?
Actually, the 1887 will hold 5+1 -- One in the chamber, one on the lifter in the lowered position, and four in the mag tube. Takes a bit of finagling, but once you get the hang of it, no problem.
I like the 87 because of the external hammer, which can be lowered to a partial cock position on a full chamber. The hammer spur is very low, so it's best done carefully.
Coyote Cap's excellent write-up on his site convinced me to buy my first one. My first IAC 87 needed some extensive polishing of the hull ejector and the mag tube follower nose, and some work on the one extractor hook, but that was about it. Not what I'd call a rebuild/redesign by any means. Further, once you've polished up one of them, it's a piece of cake to do the next one.Rusty wrote:I was looking into them some time ago and put out a question as to the quality and functioning of them. Most of Steve's coments in his excellent write-up pertain especially to the earlier IAC 1887s, from early 2006 and prior. The later 2006 and the 2007 IAC 1887 guns are much better inside, at least the ones that I have bought and others that I've examined. IMO, the most significant "issue" with the 1887 is that it doesn't readily eject longer fired hulls, as I mentioned in my earlier post. Stick to the shorter OA fired length hulls and you're GTG.
The 87 is a shotgun that sorta grows fast on its owner. Yep, it's "malformed" looking in appearance, but that funky receiver has a way of becoming quite fetching. And once you've disassembled it, you have a rekindled respect for Saint John Browning and his genius, Chinee craftsmanship notwithstanding.

Hi-cap 1887
Actually, with mine, I can get 7!rjohns94 wrote:holds 4 +1
First load 5 in the magazine, then place another on the carrier, then push the last one into the bore and close the action. Ready to go. [Note: the hammer will be back on a live round at this point].
With its 18 1/16" bbl it makes for a compact 'street sweeper'.

The ones imported into Canada come with a 22" barrel, and depending on how it fits/functions, it may be sent out to to tapped for chokes. I just want to see the look on my old man's face when I land with that in the goose blinds.GANJIRO wrote:How difficult would it be to put a 26" choke tubed barrel on the thing? "The Aussies" have wrapped up that project several years ago. ADI (Aust. Defence Industries) made a limited number before the whole deal was scrapped about 2004 (or maybe earlier). They are not making any more and those that were released are fetching phenomenal prices! there have been a few o' the chinese ones lately (like mine) and they hold a total of 7 on board, 5+ 1in the chamber & an extra 1 on the lifter...
