OT- not levers but guns

Post by jnyork »

Our clubs Wednesday night silhouette group met last night and shot some long range .22 silhouette. This is adapted from the BPCR match, downsized for rimfires. Thought some of you might like to get your clubs involved, lots of fun. This will put to rest the question of whether or not the .22 rimfire can be fired at ranges over 50 yards.

Here are the targets, 3/8 scale IHMSA smallbore, I put the paint cans in there to reference the size. Chickens are fired at 77 meters, pigs at 100 meters, turkeys at 150 meters, rams at 200 meters. Chickens are fired offhand, all others off the bench.

Here is the view downrange:

Here are the rifles, as you can see we dont have any equipment rules other than the rifle must be .22LR. Rifles include Remington 541, Sako 78, Henry, Stevens 44, Winchester Low Wall.

Firing from the bench using cross-sticks.

Yours truely nails yet another chicken

14 out of 15 on the ram (Not the winning score!) Sorry for the poor quality photo:(

The wind bothered us a little last night, it swirls around in the canyon and can be blowing three different directions between the firing line and the rams. Winning score was 50 out of 60 with two others firing 49/60. We have trree sets of the swinger targets which moves the match right along with only one or two time outs to go paint targets.

That type of .22LR shooting is getting more and more popular lately. They have started up some new-fangled NRA sanctioned long range .22LR matches at our local range.

Nice rifles. Thanks for the post and pictures.

We shoot .22 NMHSA knockdown sillouhette (100yd Rams) on the same firing line, at the same time, as our Field Pistol & Big Bore NMHSA sillouhette.

We can have up to 12 shooters simultaneously knocking down stuff.

Hey that sounds like fun, but I don't have a cheeter on my rifle like you guys got.

Love that range, where is at?

OK, now my real question. In pic #5, that adjustable shooting stick, I want one. How, or who do I talk to to get one?

That guy is an avid BPCR shooter, they use sticks like that with the big buffalo guns, he made those just for this match. I think they all make their own, not much to them. Go over to the BPCR website and see if maybe there is someone selling them or plans. Extremely simple, even a cave man can do it. :D Range is located at Lander, Wyoming. Not too sure what you mean by "cheater" if you mean the scopes, two of the guys also have iron sights on their rifles and shoot just about as well as they do with scopes.

We have about the same setup in Yuma, 12 firing points. We shoot NRA Smallbore Silhouette, Lever Action Smallbore , NRA Smallbore Hunter Pistol , centerfire Hunter Pistol and Lever Action Pistol Caliber all at the same time, shoulder to shoulder. We use the regulation (knockdown) targets there also.

For this long range match we have the regular knockdown targets but use the swingers most of the time simply to avoid spending lots of time running back and forth setting up the targets.

We send Teens/Tweens out on an ATV to do that...

They get some money, AND get to ride around on an ATV... so they don't gripe too much. (The 200m rams usually require an adult, but we make the shooter do that... )

Is the left side of that range a levee or dam, or just a really straight ridge of natural origin...?
