how full should your quiver of apertures be?

I just put a set if williams reciever firesights on my 30-30 win. 94, and they work great, Since i am new to peep sights, i was wondering how many different apertures one should have,
One reason i am asking is because I have a O/U shotgun with invector chokes and have 14 choke tubes, and only use 5, (I get carried away)
Currently i have the facrory Williams 3/8"x93, and the twilight 3/8"x125. Is there another few that are a must have?

They come with a 3/32" aperture "I think" and for normal shooting that's what I use. For sighting in or precision work I have one with a pin hole aperture, but it stays in my shooting box until I need it. When I'm hunting or hiking or just out and about I don't carry any extra apertures with me.

I seldom use but two, the one screw in one and the one it screws in... Usually the second.

Since I use tang sights almost exclusively, the aperture hole is smaller than on a receiver sight, due to the longer sight radius. On my target and silhouette rifles, I like a .060 hole and most hunting and playing chores, the hole get enlarged to .085. The main difference with me is the size of the disk and is the reason I probably have 30 or 40 different sizes with different threads for different brands of sights. (only a few go in the range box) I like a 1" disk with .060 for most of my target work, while hunting sights get a 3/8" or less. Some get a half inch or other that suits the fancy at the time------------------------Sixgun

I would suggest the .090" buckbuster size for general use, and the smallest one for target use. If you're going larger than that you might as well use the ghost ring.

I really don't see any need for more than two. For target shooting/load development and other precision shooting the the big honking disc with the pin hole in it. Tis a fact that the smaller the hole, the smaller the group.

For hunting and field shooting the William "twilight" can't be beaten. They come with a couple of different size holes. Use, the one that works best for you.

As others have said, the adjustable Merit can do both jobs of the above.

The "Ghost Ring" notion has been around as long as I can remember. It works just fine for quick and dirty shooting out to say 100 yards or so. But past that accuracy starts to suffer from the huge hole. A good man, with a good reciver sight can kill a deer at 400 yards or better. Ghost rings are worthless at those ranges.

I agree with Charles. I mostly use the Merit #4 for range shooting and have drilled out one disc for hunting ( not quite a
ghost ring)

thanks for all the great info guys, a friend of mine loaned me a target aperture, big O.D. with a 50 hole, am trying it at the range this morning, along with the the other 2, i'l let you know how it goes,

Well, the target sight didn't work for me, too tiny of a hole, Did ok with the buckbuster (3/8x93), and the twilight (3/8x125). The twilight seemed to do as well as the buckbuster. Is this common with you more experienced peep sight shooters?
Also the targer i was using at 75 yards had a 6 in. bull, and the front firesight covered it entirely,
So the next trip to the range i will bring 8 and 10 in. target, unless you all have any better solutions,

I vote for the Merit adjustable iris. If you ever find the aperture installed is not quite optimal for existing conditions it is easier and quicker to adjust the iris than to change apertures.

With the Merit, I adjust the apeture untill the front sight is clear (sharp) and use a 6:00 hold on the target. I usually sight in to impact just at the top of the front sight@ 100 yd.
