Value of a Japanese Browning BL-22
Quick check on Browning BL-22 value. A neighbor wants $200 for a Japanese grade 1 (chekering on the stocks). It's 95%, just a couple scratches. What else should I be looking for?

That's $100 too low in my area. I'd buy it if offered to me! They are nifty guns.JeffG wrote:Quick check on Browning BL-22 value. A neighbor wants $200 for a Japanese grade 1 (chekering on the stocks). It's 95%, just a couple scratches. What else should I be looking for?

+3, that was my first thought. If I saw one for $200 it would be in the house by now!mad mucus wrote:+1BlaineG wrote:200$$$..........QuicklyWhat else should I be looking for?

[A neighbor wants $200 for a Japanese grade 1 (chekering on the stocks).]
AFAIK, all Browning BL-22's were made in Japan (by Miroku), and the Grade 1 had no checkering. (I've owned both Grade I & Grade II's)
The Grade II, in addition to checkered stocks, has a lightly engraved receiver that the Grade I doesn't.
1) $200 is a super bargain for any BL-22.
2) If that gun has engraving (Grade II), you're gonna become a thief.
3) If someone's either checkered the Grade I stock or swapped in a Grade II wood , we're still gonna have you arrested.
4) If you don't post some pics of your new gun pretty soon, you're gonna be in violation of forum policy.

I Bought the BL-22
....sorry no pix, my next $200 will have to go for a digital camera. It is a BL-22 Deluxe (checkering on the stocks, engraving on the receiver...and the box!) Thanks for ALL your help and advice. Jeff G
