Nice guns. Had one in 357 max. Shot real well, but the grip and I didn't get along so I sold it. One of the few guns I have regretted selling. Wish I would have bought the 32-20 one instead. That would have made a heckofa production gun. :D

Was browsing for T/C barrels and that popped up. In fact, I may have seen one weekend before last at a show. I know I saw something odd like that but I don't recall it being a break open.

A Rex Merrill pistol showed up in my sarch as well. Neat looking thing but too pricy for me. One of the barrels offered is 7mm Rocket, I think that's a .225 Win blown out to 7mm?

Nice gun indeed. I still have the one I bought when they first came out. Mine is chambered in 7mm International Rimmed. I used it as a production gun for IHMSA. Shoots very well!

A friend of mine used to be a production gunsmith at Wichita Arms. They were pretty heavy into the handgun silhouette guns back in the 1980's, maybe the 70's too. Most of the handguns I've seen were single shot bolt actions. They also made some high end bolt rifles.

At one time they had a retail shop just off Kellogg street in Wichita.

I just googled them, and they are still in business! I am amazed.

Is 7mm IHMSA the same as 7mm International Rimmed?

I can't find either in my copy of Cartridges of the World...

The 7mm IHMSA is a rimless case

OK, what is the 7mm IR based on? .30-30? If so, what makes it different from the 7-30 Waters?

Think of the 7mm IntR as a 7-30 AI. The shoulder is blown out and at a sharper angle. It was a popular conversion for Contenders in 7mm TCU back when IHMSA was big.

If I remember correctly the 7 IHMSA was based on the 300 savage case.

7 IHMSA for the bolt guns and 7 IntR for the break open single shots. Case capacity of each was very close.

I think Freedom Arms might have borrowed their new design from Wichita Arms, photo from Gunblast.com

Having known Bob Baker for a number of years, working for him, and knowing that he had been formulating this design since the mid '90's, I can guarantee that Bob has waayyy too much integrity to "Borrow" any design from anyone. IF there are any resemblances to the WA handgun other than break action it is purely coincidental.

I just figure there's only so many ways you can design and style a single shot!

Ah, thanks! So it IS based on the .30-30.

Maybe I need to find a 7mm TCU for my Contender...Image

Hmmm, the juices got to flowing and I wonder if a Marlin 336 .30-30 could be rebarreled into 7mm IR? Dunno about the COL or feeding... :?
