Problem with FTF on Marlin 1894

I have a Marlin 1894SS .44 Magnum. I had several light primer strikes, now I am getting no primer strikes, at least no visible dent in the primer. Is this a know problem and can anyone suggest an appropriate solution? I was about to take apart the bolt, but figured I'd check here first.

Take the safety off? LOL Had to ask.... Seriously, possible broken firing pin? Hammer cock with sufficient force? If not possible hammer main spring broken or weak? Reloads or factory ammo? Reloads, it could be primers not seated all the way down. I'm thinkin' broken firing pin......hope this helps, Tom

Maybe try compressed air or even WD-40 to the firing pin hole; if there is junk in there it would mess it up. If that fixes it temporarily, I'd remove the firing pin(s) to clean the passage thoroughly.

Hello and welcome,
Check that cross bolt safety first. They seem to get bumped on at the worst time. If that's not the problem the next thing to look for is a broken firing pin. Next is the spring that pushes down on the rear section of the firing pin (inside the rear of the bolt) can cause too much drag and prevent good primer hits. Last is usually an intermittent thing but the wire type trigger return spring there under the hammer will sometimes rub the bottom of the hammer slowing the hammer fall. The evidence is a drag mark on the bottom of the hammer. I just clearance the hammer some.

Pull the lever screw and drop the bolt out. Push up on the rear half of the firing pin, and then push it in. Look at the front of the bolt and it should be protruding about .060" through. If not you may have a broken pin.-Vall
