I've decided. I'm gonna get a Takedown BLR

Post by Tycer »

In 358 Winchester.
I can't resist any longer.
I'm going to use this seller:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =120627012

I'm digging all the stuff I don't have to have and selling it online. I'd offer it to y'all, but I'm trying for top dollar.
The only gun stuff I'm going to list is a Lyman 3589 SC mold, a brass 3 cavity copy of the 3589 with a flat nose, a Lyman Universal Case Trimmer, one of my Steel BLRs in 358, and maybe one of my 356 Win 94 BB.
That should give me enough cash to get the gun, scope base, and several mags.
Kind regards,
Tycer

That's a good choice and a most versatile gun. I used one of the new take-down models. Between disassembly and re-assembly with a scope mounted on the barrel (scout position) it returned to within an inch to an inch and a half each time. That's pretty good for such a simple and easy to operate take-down mechanism. That rifle in a short Tuff-Pack case would never be viewed as a firearm in shipment - another plus for the take-down. Good luck with it!

I'm eyeing one at my local gunshop in .30-06 . I'd go for a .358 but don't want to have to invest in dies, brass, etc. as I already have a couple thousand factory loaded .30-06 rounds on hand along with dies, primers, and all the other stuff I need to reload for the .30-06.

Good luck on your new rifle Tycer. I'm danged sure you'll love it.

Do you already have the components on hand to reload for the .358 and perhaps some factory loaded .358s too?

I've been enamored with the new take-down BLRs since I saw them on the Browning site. I've never seen one in person and so I don't really know how the take-down mechanism works. If I had to pull the trigger, I would also choose the 358 Win from the list of what's available. The only thing I have that's close is a Lightweight BAR in 270.

I have a BLR in 358 win that is a takedown, I really like it, I haven't shot anything with it but 1 hog - he sure was dead. I got the pistolgrip - I just like them - the take down part uses a short lever under the chamber end of the barrel. I shot mine at 100 yds, then took it down and put it back together several times and shot it again, I did not get any noticeable movement in the zero. It makes a nice little package when taken down, even with a scope.

Tycer, when you get it, you need to bring it to Hondo TX and try it out. Maybe you can bring it on a TX Safari.

I have a good friend who purchased one in stainless/308 win. We loaded up 10 rounds, and he proceeded to hit every soda can I put on the ground from 40-100 yards with a peep sight after taking it apart after each shot fired. He still has not put a scope on it, and may use it as is without one. I am thinking of getting one myself, and am thinking of selling off a 1951 Winnie 94 to help get it. Good Luck with it!

Sweet! I have three non-TD BLRs, and have been keeping my eye on the Takedowns. A local dealer tends to keep one or two on the rack; I visit often.

Congratulation Tycer, even though I'll be green with envy  I want to see some pictures. I've been wanting the same thing but just can't do it at this time.
