I ve been trying to decide which will be the first gun I will get this year

Browning 53 in 332/20
Chaparral NWMP style carbine in 45/60
Winchester 63 hi grade repro
Baker rifle kit

My resolution for the new year is to not buy any (not including those I have put aside or told the owners I was contemplating adding to my meager collection). So the only new to me guns that will be following me home is a Colt SAA in .357, and perhaps a Savage 1899 in 38-55. I will check both of them out today and then I am done for the year!!

I would like to find a nice Belguim Browning Sweet Sixteen, vent rib, mod choke, round knob unaltered.....if so I would grab it assuming the cash was available.
I have also put my name on the list from Lipskeys for the new Ruger Blackhawk in 44 special.
Other than those two.....unless a deal comes along I may not be buying anymore guns this year.

I'm thinking real hard about a Beretta Laramie. I'd also "like" to get a Win. '73 in 38-40. Whether I'll get either one of those is any ones guess. I would like to shoot the ones I've got. Given my work load and working around the place I haven't been to the range for a number of years. Not like I used to.

I have a lead on a couple - all I was told about them is there's a Marlin in 38-55 and a Winchester in 30-30. They're going to be cheap, so if the condition is anywhere near decent, they'll be coming home with me.

Other than that, I have a Chaparral 1876 in mind. First I was thinking 50-95, but I think for ease of reloading I'll probably go with 45-60. The Canadian importer for them has a 1 year warranty on them, so if I get a lemon, I'll be covered.

Howdy Folks,
I told my local dealer that I'm not buying any more guns.. He smiled and said "ya,right".....
Well, he was right.. I just called him and ordered a new Henry .30-30..
I looked one over at a local big box store yesterday. It looked really solid, huge bull barrel, rather heavy. The box store was way overpriced, of course. (GM, not the car company!)
I'll follow up when I know more...

I ordered a new Cimarron Low Wall .22 Long Rifle featuring a checkered pistol grip stock and double set triggers. A local club (Hat Creek Rifle & Pistol Club) is starting up some .22 long range matches and I wanted to participate. This rifle fits the bill:

I'm now shopping for a Malcom style scope that would be appropriate for this rifle. I like the $400 price of the Leatherwood/Hi-Lux but the mounts seem poorly made. The $850 R.H.O. looks mighty good as does the $1,000 MVA, but that's a lot of money for a 3/4" tube scope. But then again, they say you get what you pay for...

I guess that 'thinking' is more accurate than 'planning' as I have no idea where the money would come from.
So, I've been thinking about a new 1895 winchester SCR in either 30-40 or 30-06.
But then I've also been lusting after a high grade Browning 1895 also.

I will not be purchasing any "new" guns in the coming year. I will not buy anything that requires an FFL and/or registration. Collectors firearms are another story, though. My plan is to acquire as many pre-1936 Model 1886s as money allows. At this time that probably will only be two, or maybe three, guns.

Buy none, trade yes! I sure wanted a 1963 Belgium 20 gauge superposed I saw in a shop the other day. It was in great condition and the price of 2200 was reasonable but this shop wants to give you half of the book value for your trade-ins. I can't do business that way or I will not.

I guess it doesn't technically count as "this year" (2009) but I just bought a .45-70 Marlin XLR this past Tuesday (30 Dec 2008) and that's close enough to 2009 to count for me. I have no plans to buy another gun anytime in the near or distant future.

I do have powder and primers to use for hand loading .45-70 ammunition but no bullets, brass, or dies so I'll concentrate on getting those items.

Well, I bought one of these yesterday:

Just your basic 2nd Generation Glock 17. This is a police trade in, so hopefully carried a lot, shot little... like my other police trade in guns. Has night sights that need to be recharged, but at least they're steel and not the plastic issue ones which I hate. $389 shipped with two 17 round mags from Bud's Gun shop.

I've been looking for one of these for some time - a good used one to go with my Keltec Sub2000 which uses the same mags. Just seemed like I had to have a G17 to go with it....

Other than that, I've got a Stag lower and a del-ton rifle kit (AR-15) on order - hope they beat the expected AWB....

I've been selling rifles and my leftover no-gunsmithing AK mounts (just sold the remaining 30 to Blackjack Buffers - whooho!) to fund this stuff... so pretty much staying even. My wife thinks I should just sell....

go figure!

I have a 16g Browning. It has a vent rib and a round knob on the end of the curved grip. It also has an adjustable recoil pad (adjusts up or down). It is marked FN on the bottom of the receiver above the serial number and under the serial number are the letters DG. How do I know if this is a Sweet 16? I must admit I am kind of ignorant about this shotgun that I inherited when my dad passed away.

I am collecting my CAS guns, one gun per completed semester of college. I have 2 Ruger NVs in 45 Colt, an inherited 97 shotgun and now will be looking for a Marlin Cowboy in 45 Colt. I was also thinking of a 92 in 45 Colt but the Marlin is easier to work on with drop in trigger kits, one piece firing pins, etc. Plus the bolt can be removed for cleaning. The Marlin is as period correct as the Rugers (not), but legal according to SASS.

I will likely pick up a pocket 22, not sure which one yet.

Then I will complete what I have in the way of projects:

1. 1895-1899 Stevens Favorite.
2. 1920 Savage 99 multibarrel set.
3. 1908 Marlin 1893 t/d 30-30.
4. Install new block in 1927 Marlin 39.
5. 1942 Tokarev rifle.
6. Martini barreled action.
7. Winchester highwall barreled action.
8. Winchester lowall barreled action.
9. couple of revolvers (prewar) and a pistol.

will get rid of rusty trapdoor and 1903/1917 barrelled actions
along with an old unknown at this time military bolt action.

That should take care of things this year

I'd love to get a Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70, but I'll probably have to settle on getting the Winchester 97 that I inherited from my grandfather fixed (I also wound up with his 94, which I used to take a doe in NY this year), and maybe get a Moisin Nagant.

I really need to get a .30-30. Since my wife stole mine and had the stock sized to her, I have done without one. This year that will be remedied with either a new Marlin or a new Mossberg .30-30.

I was looking at the latest Guns & Ammo, in their shooters showcase they have a Charter Arms Rimless Revolver that caught my eye. It is suppose to be available in 40S&W, 9MM, and 45 ACP. It doesn't require moon clips. I want one in 45 ACP.

Boreman, I have two 25-20s. One is an old 92 Winchester and the other an old 93 Marlin. I can't make myself pick up a shotgun anymore for turkey hunting because they are so much fun to shoot. I aim for the head and if I miss then so be it! P.S. Now if it's a big old long beard the lower the sight goes.

Just a word about CAS guns. Most of us end up shooting 38 special instead of 45 C, but there are a few hangers on who still stick to the 45's. You need a 45C if you intend to shoot in the Classic Cowboy Category. Get a 92 or 94 as the very last resort. They are difficult to slick up, and can never be as slick as a Marlin 1894C. Buying a Marlin Cowboy is a waste of money as long as the 1894C is available, they look different but are no better. The 1894CBC also looks different than the standard 1894C, but doesn't shoot any better. I just spent two days working on a friend's 1894CBC (38 special only) and it still doesn't feed shorter cartridges very well. Marlin's are your best buy for a Cowboy rifle if cost is a concern. A toggle action rifle like a '73 or '66 makes the best Cowboy Rifle as far as speed goes because you can install a short stroke kit, but they are expensive at about $1000, compared to a Marlin being about $400.

Actualy they did reintroduce the Sweet Sixteen that was made in Japan for a couple of years. The big differences were the gloss finish on the wood, invector tubes in the barrel, a different butt pad still a hard plastic but modern.

Well I didn't really plan on getting any new guns, but then again, I never really plan on it, I just see something I want. Yesterday I bought a Marlin 1894S in 44 Mag, something that I've been wanting. Also yesterday a Ruger Blackhawk in 44 Mag that I won at auction arrived, now I have a pair, they are stainless steel with 4-5/8" barrels (KS-458N). While my dealer was calling in the info for the background check, he paused and said "now would be a good time to give them the info on that judge, if you still want it". Nodding my head was all it took and I was the new owner of a NIB Taurus Ultra-Lite Judge. My dealer wanted an AR upper I had so we traded. The Judge fires 410 shotshells and 45 C cartridges. At this point I can't think of any firearm I want, that is a bad feeling. I have a few guns i need to sell...

I have a tendency to impulse buy, my wife plans. Last year, I got one, my wife got three. It seems I'm running behind but really I'm still ahead by about 30. A lightweight commander in 45acp is a real possibility this year but not really "planned".
