Suggestion for Sticky's and Announcements- please

Post by preventec47 »

Considering how all of us have to wade over all of them every
time we visit the board, wouldnt it be a good idea to lump them
all in one message heading. I mean one Sticky and one Announcement
so anyone interested could just scroll down the message and
read them all.
Sometimes it just feels like the whole first page is Stickys and Announcements.
Are we sure that ALL of them are that important ?

Don't want to wade through stickies? Then in the forum index click on the selection to view topics since your last visit, top right.

Oh, and please don't insert returns in your post, just let it wrap like this one and not like yours above...
Sincerely,

Hobie

From a moderator point of view, it's FAR better to have a variety of stickies and announcements. As they expire or are no longer of importance they get unstickied, so to speak - and thus slide down the message queue. If they were all under one announcement then each time there was a change in the status of ONE item, the moderators would have to wade through ALL of them to edit out the one that needed changed/deleted or whatever.

As for "The One Sticky" - we've got it. Only now it's no longer a list of forum messages but an HTML document list in its own subdomain.

And like Hobie said, if you just want to see "what's new" go to the forum list on http://www.levergunscommunity.com and click on the appropriate listing to view. You can even view just your own posts, those that are unanswered or ???? take a look.

As for covering "the whole front page" - not quite. Not nearly so. On the old forum there were originally 20 posts per page and nearly half of them were stickies on the front page. Here we've got 12 sticky or announcement type posts on it. Some of them will be unstuck soon - you've got to take into consideration the switch to the new forum and all. AND it's amazing how many messages we receive that would not be necessary - IF FOLKS WOULD READ THE ANNOUNCEMENTS AND STICKIES.

Note the editing of your original post above. There's no need for so many carriage returns - the cursor automatically scrolls down when you reach the end of the message window - thus providing a more readable post.
