Shot a 5 point this morning.
Using 173gr Lyman mould bullet cast from WW, pushed by an LP primer and 28.5 grs of H-335.
I had an 1000 plus word story typed up but the forum ate it.
So a long story short I shot it at 30yds right behind the shoulder left handed. It went for 50-60 yds bleeding out both sides on a dead run and expired. Hit a rib going in making a golf ball sized hole and went out about the size of an 50 cent piece.
Hit hard enough to splatter lung tissue around the entry wound.
I thanked God for the gift and spent the next 1/2 hour hauling it a 1/4 mile over hills and blow downs.
Excuse the big pants but I'm 80lbs lighter then I was this time last year and could not afford to replace my Wool-rich hunting gear.

Congrats on the successful hunt. Don't worry about the baggies. They don't look that bad.
I got one of them Lyman magic bullet molds. Someday I gotta get my casting equipment set up again. I'd sure like to try them.
What kind of velocity are you getting from your H-335 load?

What's the story behind that?

3 years ago I sent the rifle to a gunsmith named Mcpherson and had him optimize the barrel, balance and weight and that is what I ended up with.
Shoulders like a dream.

Thanks for posting the pic and story, Congrats on your success. Any man with stones big enough to wear those pants out in public is alright in my book...!

Congradulations! On both the buck and the weight loss
Those cast bullets get it done right, don't they? I bet 95+% of my game over the past 30 years has been taken with cast bullets. And I just love that 311041!

Yeah, there a little loud. But they are so darn warm and comfortable that I'll take some ribbin.

When I lost that much weight a change in wardrobe was a nice reward, however even after losing 150 lbs, there are a few garments I won't part with. Roomy!
I gotta try your tactic and wear my loudest gaudiest Aloha Shirt I have hunting and scare the deer stiff giving me time to get off a good clean shot. All kidding aside congrats on the weight loss and hunting success. I got a whole bunch of cast flat-nose gas check 170 grain loads I'm dying to try out at the range when I'm healed up better, then head over to Maui to give them a try on the Axis deer there. Maybe in 5 months if I'm lucky.

Ahh, eggs over easy, toast and backstraps for breakfast.
Of course since I shot it with a a wheel weight I guess I'll go blind from lead poising here soon.

Nath,
I like the way H-335 meters. It also is very consistent in ignition with the large pistol primers I use.
Accurate and shoots very well out of all 4 of my 30-30's.
As for the pants, its a toss up between either stunning them or having them run father after being shot.

THINK YOU HAVE BLOW DOWNS TRY RITA AND IKE IN 3 YEARS . CANT EVEN TOUCH THE GROUND FOR MILES. SERIOUSLY THOUGH I NEARLY BROKE MY LEG ON OPENING DAY TRYING TO FIND A PLACE TO SET UP MY POP UP BLIND. DECIDED TO STAY ON THE ROADS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. ITS LEGAL ON THE LEASE. AT 60 I DONT LIKE FALLING DOWN IN THE JUNGLE OF THE BIG THICKET ALONE. NICE DEER I HOPE HE EATS GOOD!!!!!!!
Congrats, nice deer and I would like to see more pics of the rifle also. I had some mil-surplus wool pants which were about 2 sizes too large and instead of dry cleaning, I washed them in hot water. Shrank just about right.
