We Lost a Levergunner Today
Mikel Peterson was not a member of this board, but no one was more of a levergunner than he. His collection includes a '73, a '76, an '86, a '92, and several 94 Winchesters and clones. Calibers from .32-40 and .45-65 (I think) to .45-70.
Though we're not blood kin, he was my brother by choice.
Ride on...

Sorry to hear of his passing. Lost my brother by choice earlier in the year. I am sure you have wonderful memories of him. Never forget them and he will live on.

Re: We Lost a Levergunner Today
Mikel was a very private man, one reason we never saw him here. He was a graduate of the original Gunsite. To give you an idea of how much a levergunner he was, he took an advanced rifle course with a 94 Winchester trapper in .30-30 (everone else had some AR varient) and came out near the top of the class.
I know of no other man in these days more devoted to our Lord.
Peace, brother.

Re: We Lost a Levergunner Today
The loss of a best friend is one of the worst of happenings. He would have felt the same loss had it been you 20 Cows. Your friend will live in your heart till you are gone from this earth, and that is a good thing.

That's a Nautical term wishing one a safe, smooth, voyage.
It can easily be applied to a Levergunner.

Re: We Lost a Levergunner Today
Sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like he was fairly young, and I am sure that makes it ever harder. I probably shouldn't ask, but was this due to an illness or a something more sudden? Please forgive me for asking, and ignore my question, if you want.

Re: We Lost a Levergunner Today
He'd not been feeling quite right most of the summer due to a minor horse wreck. It turns out it was masking cancer. He was about starved to death by the time his wife forced him to a doctor. (He hadn't seen a doctor in over 20 years and up to now, hadn't needed to).
The chemo was whipping the dog out of the cancer, but him being down so much, it whipped him, too.

Re: We Lost a Levergunner Today
He's an interesting animal. Doesn't know much about a cow, as he was just a "trail ride" pony in his previous life, but man, does he have a good road gear. Not a kid horse, though (he was the source of the minor wreck)....anybody that rides an Appy is a friend of mine!
I've got him on my place, which is probably the first time in his life he wasn't kept in a stall/pen situation. I took him out there while Mike was ill. It looks like he'll stay.

Re: We Lost a Levergunner Today
20cows, words escape me. Somewhere I read or heard, "rememberence of the good times shared will overcome the sadness of immediate loss". I too, lost a brother by choice, but remembering Fred's enthusiam and perserverance have served to help me thru some of my own tough times. Every day I spend outdoors hunting is dedicated to Fred.
I wish the best for ya, my friend.
