22 CF Marlin Varmit Lever Rifle ?
I'm a new member here . Found Leverguns.com searching the net. I'm curious as to why Marlin dose not offer a 22 CF
lever action varmit rifle? Bring back the 218 bee or get with one of the ammo makers and develope a new more modern cartridge and bullet. Something that would duplicate the performance of the 221 fire ball or 223 Rem. Use a 1 n 9 twist barrel to handle bullets up to 70gr. for larger varmits . Their 94 action with 20in long heavy hex barrel like the cowboy action rifles would be a dandy .

Welcome to the fire! Pull up a stump and stay awhile - we always like new ideas, especially on levers! I doubt you'll get much argument from us here on Marlin (or anyone else) introducing new (or re-introducing old) levers!!!

Lever action guns are seen by most people as short range guns. Everyone knows that varmints can`t be killed by a levergun! You need to have a bolt actioned plastic stocked marvel for that.
Sales would be too slow for a varmint lever to make money for the company.

Welcome! Lide YK said, I don't think you'll run into much opposition to ideas like them here. I like the idea of a small bore lever for varmit hunting too.
Re: 22 CF Marlin Varmit Lever Rifle ?
Maybe we should get together and have a group buy in a .218 Bee.

Really, there is merit to that, if enough letters were to go to Marlin requesting a run.
In these economic times, any firm would be foolish not to respond.
Imagine a whole group of ( undesireables ) running around with new 1894 .218 Bee's and 25-20's.
Blasphomy!

I can't understand why Ruger don't chamber the 96 in .22 Hornet!

+1 - now that is an idea I never really thought of, but if they would, I would trade up on one from my Ruger 77/22 hornet.game keeper wrote:Welcome to the fire.

Re: 22 CF Marlin Varmit Lever Rifle ?
Now lets see. The 1894 action could accomodate the .218 Bee. Ya start with a .357 caliber 1894, get ya a proper barrel, have it chambered, open up the breechface just a tiny bit, and shazaam. Of course COAL would be an issue, so ya would need to deep seat any LONNNNG bullets.
On the COAL issue, the 1894 wouldn't accommodate the .25-35, or even the MARLIN .25-36. Getting those done would probably be a bigger deal.....
Getting Marlin to make any of em is simply NOT GONNA HAPPEN. There simply is not enough interest in the entire world to get em to blink on this one.

you think?
Re: 22 CF Marlin Varmit Lever Rifle ?
Couldn't they build the .23-35 on a 336? I thought it was a necked down .30-30.

Re: 22 CF Marlin Varmit Lever Rifle ?
I would think if they went with either a 1894 in 218 B, or a 336 in 219 zipper, there would be a market. Now that that old line about the inaccuracy of leverguns has been proven to be wrong there seems to be no reason why many of us would not buy one. They might not sell millions of them but they'd certainly sell tens of thousands I would think.
My choice would be either cal. with a medium weight 24" barrel and a short magazine, and a nice touch would be stainless and with a laminated stock like the XLR, but in natural wood tones (whoever heard of grey wood).
Please Mr Marlin.

Don't forget that Remington has to decide if the cost of retooling would be feasible.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.
Re: 22 CF Marlin Varmit Lever Rifle ?
They made the 336SC in 219 Zipper in the late 1950's and they didn't sell very well !
But I have one
They made the 1894CL in 218 Bee in the late 1980's and early 1990's and they didn't sell well !
But I have one
The 25-35 will function perfectly in the 336 action with no problems as will the 7-30 Waters !
Oh yeah my 219 Zipper and 218 Bee are not for sale
If you want to make a Bee on a Marlin 1894 get you one of the last run of 1894CL's in 32-20 ! Then have it rebarreled . You'll have no problems since the 218 Bee is nothing more then a 32-20 that is necked down to 22 caliber !

If you want a Marlin 336 in 219 Zipper just find you a nice old 336 somewhere and have it rebarreled .
The 219 Zipper is nothing more then the 30-30 case necked down to 22 caliber also ! All my Zipper brass was made from 30-30 cases .

Re: 22 CF Marlin Varmit Lever Rifle ?
Thanks for the replies. I can't think of a better platform than a modern western style lever action for coyots.
You would think that with the popularity of varmit hunting , Marlin would offer something specialized for the task.

Re: 22 CF Marlin Varmit Lever Rifle ?
Since marlin is now the child of Big Green, I think even the suggestion would be boo-ed out of the office because Remington spends a bunch of dollars advertizing their .223 Bolt action "varment" gitters. They don't need an unprofitable levergun competing for the marketplace and neither of em end up clearing a dime after expenses.....
FWIW: look for lots more of that kinda thinking when Chrysler becomes a division of GM.

Aideronakjack has a good, valid argument.
Remington killed the 788 because it was nocking off Model 700 sales.

With the efficient powders we have now I would like to see a 25 hornet. Take The 22 hornet, put a 40 degree shoulder on the case and neck it up to .250".
This would be real sweet, what say you ?

I just finished a trigger job on a Marlin in 218 Bee for a friend. Groups at 100 yards were on the order of 1-1/2". With the best loads it would be a viable yote and crow gun to 200+ yards or more, and it is one sweet handling gun.

Lefty, the .25 Hornet has been done. When the neck is blow out to .25, the Hornet case is almost a straight taper. No room for a shoulder in the normal sense. Rather, a "reverse shoulder" (straight section forward of the taper)Lefty Dude wrote:With the efficient powders we have now I would like to see a 25 hornet.
