Source for .44 Rem Mag, .432", plain base, cast bullets?
I want to try some hard cast lead hand loads for my Marlin 1894 with a .4315" bore. Can someone recommend a source for 200-260 gr., .432" diameter, PBHC bullets? Or should I look for .433" or gas checked?

This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

The bigger the better with a Marlin 44. I'd try the .433" gas check bullet.

I know you're lookin for ready made bullets but you really should consider getting a mould of your own and a simple casting setup. You won't regret it!

Laser Cast use moulds which drop rounded bottom bullets. I'd go with squared bottoms for plain based - the rounded can cause gas cutting and leading. Further, they aren't sized large enough for this man's rifle.scr83jp wrote:Oregon Trail Bullets66GTO wrote:I want to try some hard cast lead hand loads for my Marlin 1894 with a .4315" bore. I would say also to go with a gas check design to simplify your efforts at getting an accurate and high velocity load.

Re: Source for .44 Rem Mag, .432", plain base, cast bullets?
I think I found the answer to my problem. I was digging around Montana Bullets web site and found this:
Overbore 44
A customer of mine was describing problems he was having with his new Marlin 1894 Cowboy II in 44 mag. Seems that when the bullets hit the target (seldom), there were clear signs of tumbling. Curious. A call to Marlin informed him that they are using .432" bores to reduce pressure! Friends, that model will never shoot a typical .429-.430" bullet accurately. It just so happens that I had a similar problem years ago with a Remington Model 788 in 44 mag and had two custom moulds cut. Problem solved. My customer tells me the rifle now shoots "one ragged hole". These two NEI moulds, a 230 grain SWC-GC and a 240 grain SWC-GC, are made to size out at .433" and turned both of these guns into respectable shooters. Do you have an overbore 44?
"A call to Marlin informed him that they are using .432" bores to reduce pressure! " Thanks a lot, Marlin. One of the reasons I bought the Marlin was because my Puma .44 Mag is overbored.

The only way you are going to get a properly sized 44 barrel is with a 44-40. Mine are either .428" or .429".
