It's about time the British Police started confiscating dangerous walking sticks from old people and while they're at it what about confiscating all those highly dangerous crutches I see people with broken legs using, sometimes they are even ARMED with TWO!!!

I think if common sense was a requirement for joining the British Police we would sadly see a big drop in police numbers.
I'm currently reading a book called Armed Police (the police use of firearms since 1945) by Michael J. Waldren ex Metropolitan Chief Superintendent.

So far I have read about the Metropolitan Police losing 25 tons of police weapons! and sending out an armed officer to arrest a known armed robber, the police constable was given a Webley revolver with the instructions to not load it!

I think if I relied on a walking stick to aid my mobility and a copper confiscated it I would immediately fall over and demand they get me a wheel chair!

Heh, Heh........They are catching on. I'll carry a stout cane when I can't carry someplace like the fair or somthing.......I pity the poor person that let's me get in a swift jab to the middle regions or throat.....When they're catching their breath from that, hook a ankle and finish it off........

stuff they are a step ahead of me already!One of my retirement travel plans was to have a cane with a 90 degree handle so if need be I could revert back to all that old pr -24 training.

Thanks, hfcable! It hurt to type it in...

Model55, I tried that cane thing already with one of those canes that is shaped like an exaggerated "J" - the ones that are usually aluminum with a soft rubber handle, bent so that the middle of your palm is at the center of gravity, and the cane bends back so that the shank extends directly below your hand. If you put some slick plastic electrician's tape on the handle and solder some fishing weights into the tip, it works pretty well.

The only trouble is, when I get to that stage, I can see me lifting the cane to make a horizontal spin at some young whippersnapper, which sacrifices my support, then promptly falling on my butt - doooohp!

When i got in to my accident i could not walk with out a cane one day early evening i stop at a local bar to say hello to some buddy's when i left there was a cop car across the road i got about half way home when i got pull over by four cops with shot guns and pistols on me they thought i robed and shot up the bar with a shot gun he [the cop] saw me leaving and thought i was trying to hide a shot gun on my side they grabbed me tossed on the ground like a rag liter sat on me and the hole time i was yelling about mu knees after they were done i had to go to the hospital to have my knees X-rayed they see a cane and think the worst
