OT - Berreta AL391 Sporting shotgun

Post by bsaride »

I have an opportunity to get one of these used for $1000.
What are your opinions on this gun and is this a good price?

I think that's a little too much. I have one in 20g for sale for $850. My friends who use them swear by them and have had good luck. One thing you may or may not know is that there are different bushings available if you are going to use primarily one load. For instance, if you are going to use a lot of 3" steel you would get the heavier bushing. The bushing times the action to coincide with the cartridge power level so you do not cause unnecessary wear and tear on your gun. When you use a different bushing, you dont necessarily get reliable function with lighter or heavier loads, but it is 100% reliable with the one it is intended for. I also think they are a pain to clean. Me, I prefer the Benelli, Franchi or Stoeger with the ID system. No mess, no hassle, and perfect reliability.

Sounds a bit high to me too . I was just looking at a Benelli Ultralight, new was $1200 at Gander Mtn., who arent really known for bargain prices.

86er - Doesn't the AL-391 have the spring loaded vent for venting unused gases? My A-390 does & I was thinking the 391 was a newer version.

IMO, the 391 is the best 3" chamber 12 ga. auto loading shotgun you can buy. I've put 20,000+ shells through my 391 target gun the past two years, and have had no problems. Only part that's needed replacing is the recoil spring in the stock.

Bought mine (a Urika PT) new for $975 (not including tax or an adjustable butt plate and new recoil pad). I wouldn't pay more than $800 for a used 391.

They are good strong autos. I think it is based on the Browning B80 action of which is very highly reguarded. You probably won,t need to clean it :!:

I have this model here: Urika Gold Sporting Silver Reciever:

And I used to shoot a lot of sporting clays before my strokes, and it was the sweetest shooting thing. retail $1500

If it is like this model and has all of the chokes with it then it really isnt that far off in price, if it is in near new shape and hasnt been all beat up!

Without seeing it it is hard to judge.

But just remember different models comand different price. This model retails $250 higher than a regular Sporting($1250),

which retails for $200 more than a regular AL391($1050).

Also a Teknys Gold Sporting retails for $1850 which is $350 more than the one pictured at the top of my post.

Unless of course its a Teknys field model at $1425 retail like below

So as you can see the AL391 can get a little confusing!

I have had one of these fine shotguns, and they are outstanding!!! I think the price is a little too high. I think $800 is much more like it with 7 or 750 being the best!! Art

I traded my Remington 1100 20 ga for a 391

Post by dgr416 »

I traded my Remington 1100 20 ga for 12 ga 391.I thought the 391 kicked to hard for an autoloader 12 ga.I sold it for$800 and added $200 and bought one of my Weatherby 338-378 Accumarks.I bought the 20 ga 1100 for $279 was back in 1983 so I had $479 for a $1600 Weatherby 338-378.I enjoy the Weatherby alot more than the 391.I dont really like auto shotguns.I like 20 ga sxs shotguns best.
