Which NRA publication?

Post by AmBraCol »

Here's a little something I was wondering about. Which publication do you folks prefer with your NRA membership?

American Rifleman, but to me it seems to have gone downhill over the last several years. I didn't really like the last format change.

I think the question should have been -- Which NRA publications do you get each month? I get both the American Rifleman (for my membership) and the American Hunter (for my wife's membership). So, I get both magazines.

Actually, both subscriptions are mine. The wife is only vaguely aware that there is a NRA membership in her name. I got two subscriptions because that lets the NRA declare an extra membership.

When I first joined I received the hunter for a couple of years. I then switched to the rifleman and have received that for, like, forever. I do think they could do a better job with their main stories. Something that includes older firearms, like leverguns, etc.. :D

Me (life member) - "Rifleman"
Daughter (life member) - "Freedom"
Son (annual member [so we at least are reminded to send some money yearly  ] - "Hunter"

I also subscribe to the Second Amendment Foundation's "Women & Guns" for the office. Years ago a patient subscribed me to that as a thanks for advising to get her a CCW permit after she was raped. She had been a terrified, dysfunctional, and housebound teacher who was gang-raped at a school ("gun free 'safety' zone") by several students. It is full of articles from an angle emphasizing the 'non-macho' aspects of firearms ownership - self-protection, safety around children, and stuff like cowboy[girl] action shooting.

"American Rifleman" - and I've been getting it steady now for almost 30 years. I even have several of the issues my Dad got in the 60's!

You forgot one though - YKK gets "Insight", which is the magazine for younger members! :D

I used to switch back and forth between Hunter and Rifleman half and half around hunting season. Now just the Hunter. The Rifleman seemed liked it was the WWI and WWII Rifle Diaries for a while. I had enough of the military rifles in the military.

Got America's First Freedom for a while, then switched to AH. I may try AR next year. From what I've seen, there are occasional articles in each that interest me, but ,for me, no one of them is a consistent winner, article to article, month to month.

Hey guys, when I updated the poll it erased prior answers. So to reflect the answers on the question correctly we need you to reanswer the poll by choosing one or more of the options. Or not. It's not like it's a "do or die" issue... :D

I would prefer the rifleman but when I renewed online I hit Hunter by mistake.
