This was not a levergun hunt but I thought you guys might be interested anyway-
My 18 year old neighbor was very lucky to draw a Bighorn Sheep tag this year for Oregon. He is an extremely dedicated hunter.
With his father's help he did his homework by scouting the hunt area in eastern Oregon for several weeks, and he found one particularly big ram he wanted to go after.
Opening day, he found his ram and dropped it with a 340 yard shot from a Weatherby 300 Magnum.
The taxidermist green scored the horns at 179 1/2". Here are the pics:

Congratulations to him! What a magnificent trophy.
Were they hunting Hells Canyon? It looks like that kind of country. I used to hunt that area a lot and saw a lot of sheep there, but was never fortunate enough to draw a tag.
WOW! You only get one bighorn tag per lifetime here in Oregon, and I would say he'll be happy with that ram for the rest of his days, even if he lives to be 100!
One can only imagine what an accomplishment like this at such a tender age will spur on in the life ahead for this young man. His dad must have instilled some good stuff into his son. Thanks for the post.
To hell with them fellas, buzzards gotta eat same as the worms.

The size is great. I doubt he will top that, but I like hearing about the effort he put into getting it. Alot of scouting, made his choice, and went after it. That's cool.
Good on ya! That is a magnificent Ram. It's a once in a lifetime tag here ion Oregon but it may take several lifetimes to get one! I have not gotten one yet but every year I keep hoping.
