I love the guys in my IDPA club...

An email from our Fearless Leader...
--------------------------
All...

With the upcoming births within our group, we'd like to propose an idea to all of you.

Chad and Brian (not me) are both pregnant (well, their wives are pregnant). Chad's baby is due about Dec 29. We're presently unsure of Mac's due date.

We propose we take up a collection to purchase two Crickett .22 caliber rifles to present to the guys from the group. Chad's rifle will be stocked in Pink...We'll have to find out if Mac is having a boy or girl before his rifle is purchased.

Purchase price will be about $150 each (rounded to the high side). If there are ten of us doing this buy, we'd each have to kick in $30. Of course, if the price is lower overall, that number will be less. We'll talk to Sue Kempf to get a more exact number tomorrow.

Every child should have a good rifle to learn the shooting sports, and this will save the expectant fathers and their stretched budgets that cost. It will also be a nice story to tell the kids when they're old enough to shoot their rifles for the first time.

What do you all think? Good idea? Bad idea? Comments and suggestions are always more than welcome.

Please keep this email between us and away from Chad and Mac....We'd like it to be a surprise if it goes through.

Thanks,
Jeremy & Angela

More information on the rifles themselves can be found at http://www.crickett.com/CrickettRifle/c ... rifle.html

That is not a bad idea at all. And where is your IDPA club?

Here in Michigan City. We've been "unofficial" for a while, but should be getting Sanction this year.

I bought a Crickett for my boy in October for his fifth birthday. It is a nice size and weight to learn with. The quality is not that bad, but I do wish it had a few less "rough edges". I found myself with my mini file set trying to break more than a few sharp edges down. Also, I wish that the front sight was not made of plastic.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash them. I think they are a great first rifle for a youngster to start out with. I like that they are made in the US and that you have many different options in stock styles to fit their personal tastes.

Last time I saw them the chipmunks with a pink stock were more like $180 - but then again, maybe one of your club members can get a deal (or has an FFL).

I did see a couple pink-stocked Ruger 10/22's at the gunshow this weekend! Also saw a pink-stocked Rossi single-shot (a .22 with a second barrel in .410) for $99 at Dick's a few weeks ago.

Nothing beats personalization though. This is the one I did for my daughter, and I can't wait to give it to her this Christmas.

This is the one I did for my son many years ago:
