Signature Picture, Help Me Decide.

Post by cshold »

Time for a change.
I decided it’s time to get rid of the Russell Crow “3:10 To Yuma”
USFA SAA .45 “The Hand Of God” picture.

It’s time for a real Colt SA picture, and one of mine at that.
I have it narrowed down to A or B, help me out here guys.

I'd probably go with A or B

They both look great, possibly B because it has less in it which makes it look a little less crowded.

Both nice photos but I'd give the nod to B. I like the gun on the holster and I think the angle of the hoster breaks up the 90 degree lines.

I like the watch ... it adds something and spreads the items out a bit more. Looks good.

Just to go against the grain I like the first picture. It's less busy and more interesting the way the items are laid out....but you eye still goes to the pistola. Looks more natural and not as contrived. Both pictures are excellent though....just like the first. :) Thanks for sharing those.

I like 'em both, but my nod would go to "B" for the purpose you're after, for the reason mentioned by Kirk, also, as small as a signature picture will be, the less small detail, the better, IMHO.

Thanks guy’s
Looks like it will have to be picture B.
Picture A is my favorite. (Influenced by Grandpa’s watch I think  )
Picture B just looked better in the small thumb print.

Thanks KirkD for the positive comment.
For me, you set the benchmark when it comes to
photographing guns.

My wife says "B". Looks lets crowded, less busy. I like them both. I like the pocket watch, but would probably go with "B" also. The matches in "A" tend to make the pistol look more diminutive. Still like the pocket watch though. Looks like you made a good choice.

Well, I'd hate to think that I set the mark ..... there are some mighty fine picture takers on this forum, yourself inluded. There were things I liked about both photos. If it were me, I might try a third one, with the following changes:

1. Start with the B, but tilt the sixgun from pointing at the 3:00 position to the 2:00 position.
2. I think I would remove the box of cartridges ... too white or modern or something.
3. I might remove the cylinder and jacknife and add the pocket watch in their place (I, too, like that watch).
4. finally, I'd move the cartridges down away from the butt a bit, and maybe allow one or two to roll onto, or overlap the Joker.

However, that being said, I don't know much about picture taking .... I just sort of move stuff around and take a picture of what looks good to me.

By the way, your lighting is perfect .... soft. It really bring out the color and textures.

I'm not going to debate our resident "Desktop Artiste" - that's for sure!

I'd go with Kirk's recommendation and advice! :D

I intend to do just that
If the afternoon sun cooperates as yesterday,
I will employ Kirk’s suggestions and give it another go.

It’s a very short window of opportunity to utilize
the natural light coming through the back window
over the old cedar chest.

If anything, this will keep me out of trouble (Like not purchasing another
gun somewhere  ) until the wife returns from the
“Woman Of Faith Conference” in DC this evening. :D
