New to me, Marlin (remlin) .45 Colt

Post by Paladin »

I got a used (remlin) .45 Colt Marlin 1894 from a pawn shop in the box, in Great shape. I had it cerakoted and put Skinner sights on it. I had wanted a .45 for a long time and got lucky. The Buck knife is because I try to keep a knife in the case with each gun I use in the field.

Looks pretty good, and I like that version of the Buck 119, also.

I bought a late production Remlin 45/70 and on that particular gun, I was very happily surprised to find out that it was and is possibly the most accurate 45/70 that I have ever owned, and I have and do own several. The action was a little rough when I first got it but it smoothed up quickly in use.

CeraKote is not my preferred finish for aesthetics, HOWEVER, I bought a 336 in 35 Rem a few years ago and had it coated. I have the old champion synthetic stocks on it, had the barrel shortened to 16 inches, a target crown and it is wonderfully accurate. It rides in my truck everyday.

I would like a good .45 Colt levergun. Congratulations on getting one.

.
I was fortunate enough to find a round 45 Colt factory barrel and the Marlin 1894 is really easy to swap barrels on. Other than the barrel there are no other parts different between the 44 Magnum and 45 Colt…!

So I converted my 44 Mag 1894 to a 45 Colt one.

I understand the aesthetic part, but my perspiration makes blue steel rust in record time. I have it done to many of my work guns.

For a truck gun, who cares about asthetics? Does it hit where you aim? Does it work every single time? If the answer is yes, then that truck gun is just fine.

My point exactly. Plus, when the weather is nasty, I don't care because this thing is absolutely weather proof. I take it out in the rain, sleet snow and leave the "PRETTY" guns at home. In my post I was agreeing with OP as it is a tough and resistant finish

I understand. I have a couple of sort of better looking guns whìch I find myself maybe being a bit gentle with. Being able to not worry about scuff marks does help.
