Shooting gloves - lever bites!
Whent to the range today with some of my lever guns, Savage 99 in 300 Savage, a Winchester model 88 in 308, a Marlin pre safety in 357 and the big bore, just aquired Winchester model 71 in 348 a 1951 vintage. I am looking for advice on what type of padded glove to reduce the "lever bite"
Any ideas are appreciated.

Like for knuckle protection? Then you'll want a tactical glove or for construction that have hard coverings on the top of the fingers.
However that style might hurt worse than lever rapping you...

Not sure on gloves, I wrap my levers with leather, as I don’t like gloves while shooting my rifles. I do wear gloves when I go to the range a shoot a lot of pistol rounds, they are fingerless though. Blackhawk, 511, Bob Allen and others all make pretty good gloves…..but what I like may not be what you like. I wore Blackhawk gloves on duty….but my department paid for them….I'm not sure I would spend the coin myself though! They were comfortable and tough gloves!

When I am hunting, I usually just use a camo type jersey glove, with the fingers cut off at about the big knuckles, leaving the last two digits of the fingers on both hands, uncovered so I can feel the trigger and get a good grip on the wood stocks.

I've taken the sharp edges off a finger lever on several occasions. Either just live with it being shiny or have the lever reblued.

That's one of the reasons I like larger levers, but not the comically loopy ones - just ones a little bit larger than the Marlins.

I've never had leverbite until this year. Shot the Winchester 1895 for the first time. Mine is in .30-06 Springfield. Darn it if it didn't take a chunk out of my finger!
Re: Shooting gloves - lever bites!
Might just try some mechanics gloves and cut out the trigger finger.

What is lever bite?

I was wondering the same thing.
I also have never had lever bite and am not sure how or where it gets your fingers.
Maybe some people are unaffected due to particulars of hold, body size/shape, etc. ?

Count me in the group that's never experienced "lever bite" and have no idea what it is?

I’m guessing , his skin is getting pinched between the lever and stock when closing the lever.

Ive never had problem unless ive got cold hands, then its just discomfort. I use a pair UA Glove Liners, actually just a thin glove, tough and holds up forever! Untelling how many times ive levered with them on! I have used regular thin leather Wells Lamont Gloves, but they're too thick.

What I get is a wrap on the knuckles dorsal surface where they get hit by lower part of the lever during Recoil. It's more annoying than cutting or anything damaging, but it is a reason I like a little larger lever loop. Certainly wearing gloves and cold weather when hunting, I wind using the gloves where I can pull my fingers through a slit and an outer mitten And they fit through the lever nicely.
I have a similar situation when I shoot non-Bisley Ruger single action revolvers. My fingers are just the right length combined with my hand size that without the Bisley grip, my proximal interphalangeal joint knuckle is situated just behind the trigger guard and takes a fairly hard hit. Any way that I can enlarge the grip (such as converting to Bisley or simply using oversize grips) repositions my hand enough that it is the flat middle phalangeal bone behind the trigger guard, which doesn't stick out like the knuckle so doesn't get hit.
I can see how this might happen with a lever because the diameter of the wrist of the stock might combine with large fingers or knuck to position the knuckle rather than the flat part of the finger to be in contact with the lever. Although probably not as unpleasant or likely to actually cut through the skin as it is to shoot a 44 Magnum Super Blackhawk, I can see how that would be uncomfortable.
I suppose in addition using mittens that allow the fingers to be extricated when actually shooting, or getting a larger loop lever, It might be feasible to put a bit of wrap around the wrist of the buttstock that would cause the hand to opened up a little bit which would position the flat part of the finger against the bottom surface of the lever, rather than the knuckle. I've never tried that but I don't think it would be that difficult to experiment with. Something similar to using a leather cheek rest riser on the batch when you add a scope.
