What is this rifle?
This short popped up on youtube just now and the rifle looks like a marlin, but the top of the receiver has a groove running down the middle of it. I've never seen a marlin like that. Also the forend looks a little wonky. Like the end of the forend closest to the receiver doesn't taper in like a marlin usually does.

I found the full length video also. At the very end of the video you can see the left side of the rifle. The forend is weird and there is something on the left side of the receiver. Is that a safety? also, there's something weird with the lever and trigger area. like the trigger is connected to the lever.

That is not a normal marlin. I've never seen anything like it, but I'm sure one of you guys knows what it is

Guy was shaking a bit for sure . I’m bassackwards I shake after the shot of the deer runs off enough that I don’t see it drop . My friends used to say I was cold blooded when it came to deer .

Well... it definitely looks a little like a Marlin, but... I'm unfamiliar with early 336s, or 36s... Also it doesn't have the fat forend of the Marlin's I'm familiar with. But, there were store brands supplied by Marlin, Sears, Montgomery Wards, Western Auto, among others. Also, Mossberg's copy...

Re: What is this rifle?
you are totally right, that looks like the rifle in the video for sure.
neat. I've never seen one of those before.
Thanks guys. I knew someone would know what it was. I couldn't just let that go after I realized it didn't quite look right for a marlin. I had to know.

Re: What is this rifle?
Thank you. I hadn't read of either of those two rifles.
That Stevens bolt looks peculiar. A quick search shows it is indeed peculiar: "... the Stevens bolt is a shorter, square two-piece unit. When the action is cycled, the bolt rolls back and down."

Re: What is this rifle?
it is not a very common gun to find. the 35 remington was only made for 2 years. there is also a fancy Roy Rogers version of the mossberg with really nice wood etcSafestuffer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 6:36 pm Funny that I read about the mossberg for the first time, then went to one of my honey holes later the same and they had one for sale.
