Front sight height

Post by Echo154 »

Having just moved…..I can’t find my calipers. Was wondering what the front sight is on the 16” R92 in 45 Colt? Any help would be appreciated. Trying to get good sights for close in hogs!

I don't know if the front sights differ by caliber, but I have a 16" R92 in 357

the front sight is about .5" from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the bead.

not counting the dovetail base, the post of the sight is about .35-.36 above it

On my R92 my front sight was so tall that I had to raise my rear sight to its highest position for POI to match POA at 35 yards so I replaced both sights......much better.

Yeah I’m looking to add the peep sight from Steve’s guns and wondering if I can go with something shorter than the factory brush hook on the front. Brush here is fraught with thorny vines…no leaves right now so I’m not sure what it is….but it tears you open pretty good and catches on everything!

Echo, on my gun I found that in using a peep sight from Stevesgunz I could go a full .1" lower on the front sight, maybe even .125". Yep, that original front sight is very "unsightly".

Echo, the front sight height is .475" from bottom of dovetail. A couple of years ago I ordered 2 front sights from Midway. I must have used one on another lever action. This one fits fine but I had to trim the front of it to clear the barrel band. The front sight height is still high enough to give the rear sight some adjustment room for different loads.
